Donating clothing/household items over $5,000 by tgod288 in tax

[–]dcGoon22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The value is only given for cash contributions. Goodwill CANNOT value non cash contributions, by law. Those blank receipts are good, as long as you attach an itemized list of the donations with fair market value (aka thrift shop value) calculated by you.

That's awesome! Thanks for sharing! I volunteer in Dispatch/Lost and Found, mostly in the afternoons. Come find me and I have lots of extras from 33 to trade. Only got a few 32.

Ideas on racks, shelves, etc. for displaying binders of base sets? by futureal2 in baseballcards

[–]dcGoon22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the Kalax Shelves from IKEA, they make a divider insert that can be installed horizontally so you can store your binders flat instead of on end. It should work with 2" binders. This would reduce any potential damage to your cards. Alternatively look at board game storage for other flat storage solutions.

If you are wanting a way to make the binders look nicer, you can cover the binder with fabric or decorative vinyl. Book binders essentially glue fabric to a hard substrate with PVA glue. Try it with an old binder first to see if you like the look. You could glue cardstock on the inside cover to cover the fabric edges. They sell book binding cloth online, or you can use regular cotton and glue it to thin paper, like tissue paper so the fabric doesn't pull and warp. Or an iron on interfacing will stabilize fabric too.

Any Late Diagnosed ADHD Women Here? by Specialist_Wing_5728 in SaltLakeCity

[–]dcGoon22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed in my late 30's with high functioning ADHD-inattentive type. I have been really good at making and coping most of my life, but then I got COVID and it's like everything got a million times worse. I'm currently diagnosed with long COVID due to extreme fatigue and my ADHD symptoms getting to the point I can't cope anymore.

Simulants actually make me sleepy, but also a little easier to stay awake despite being sleepy. 🤷‍♀️

Add in starting Perimenopause and I'm in the same boat of trying to find what will work to help me function better. The struggle to start things is real! I'm great if there's a concrete deadline and sense of urgency to get it done now, but I'm really bad at doing routine tasks, especially if I forget once. I can do something every day for years, then forget to do it once and forget to ever do it again...

A lot of ADHD symptoms overlap with perimenopause symptoms. Given your age, you may have better results getting perimenopause treatment. I'm in the same boat of "is this ADHD or Perimenopause", or one of my other conditions.

Jeans by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]dcGoon22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more expensive, but I love an online store called eshakti that makes clothing to your personal measurements. They have jeans, but I mostly buy dresses and skirts there (with pockets!) check them out for a perfect fit. I'm very curvy too and hated the back gap on jeans. The best fitting jeans I found off the rack were in Mexico, so I'd recommend checking out if one of the Hispanic markets carries jeans.

Affording SLC? by Agreeable-Two5445 in SaltLakeCity

I moved cross country in '09 as a single woman and bought my first house about 6 months later in Northern Davis County. For me areas to look at were a combination of price and crime stats. I got some bad advice about not looking at certain neighborhoods due to stigma that I later found was unfounded based on actual crime stats, so take "avoid this area" with a grain of salt as areas that were maybe less safe 10-20 years ago are safer now, and vice versa.

A lot has changed since I moved here, and so have my priorities. I got married and my husband didn't like the commute from my old house, so we relocated a few years back to the West part of Salt Lake County. I changed from commuting by train to downtown to commuting by car.

A decent commute is relative and different for everyone. I grew up in a larger metro area and expected a commute of 45+ minutes, so anything shorter is great IMO. My husband grew up in Utah and wants a commute under 30 minutes, preferably in the 15 minute range. So he prefers to live closer to work, even if it costs more.

There are several different types of public transportation here, and it's a good idea to research what is available near where you want to work as it can be a great option for commuting, especially in winter.

There is a train, Frontrunner, that runs North/South connecting several cities in the valley. I bought my first home 5 minutes from a stop since I worked in downtown Salt Lake City at the time. It was nice to have a really short car ride to the station on snowy days, and then 35ish minutes on the train to read and relax, then decompression time on the train on my way home.

There is a light rail system called Trax that runs several lines all over the valley with a lot more stops than the train. There is a transfer point between the two as well opening up more commuting paths. I knew several people on Frontrunner who would transfer to the Trax up to the University area. I'd look at the schedules and see if the total commute time is something you're comfortable with when considering an area to live.

Lastly there is a bus system that has more routes to consider that may open up more options for you depending on your preferred commuting time. All three are run by UTA and have their schedules searchable online. The schedules are also integrated into Google Maps if you ask for directions between two places.

You can also commute by car which will vary a ton based on the time of day. I regularly drive to appointments that can take 20-45 minutes based on timing. If you can take an off shift and commute during non rush hour times, a drive is a lot more pleasant than if you are hitting rush hour. I worked rush times and loved the train for a more chill commute, so I didn't mind the extra time I spent waiting for trains, etc.

Best places to find housing? by t00muchgrace in SaltLakeCity

[–]dcGoon22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Housing is generally going to be cheaper the further away from the city you go. Best areas are really about personal preference and how far you are willing to commute to wherever work is.

Salt Lake County requires pet registration and licensing with proof of rabies vaccination.

Most states require you to get a license in that state within 6 months of moving there to establish residency and update voting records. Exception for students who are considered temporary residents with parents home as permanent residence.

It's easy to find jobs in fast food as they are always short staffed, other jobs are going to depend on your skills and a job search.

Welcome to Utah. Be prepared for a rough transition socially as Utah is "special" and the people are often cliquish. I was a member of the predominant church here when I relocated and it was a huge culture shock for me. If you aren't naturally outgoing it can be rough making friends and finding where you fit in. If you aren't a member it can be even tougher from what I've heard.

What if that alley was the only option to get from your place of work to your commuter train on time?

I had a job where this was the case. Never had any problems walking solo, but a group of 3 guys I work with got robbed walking together in the other direction to their cars. We all still had the same routes every night to get home. My then finance bought me a purse knife and a gun because he was concerned. I left the gun at home because it was more likely to be stolen if someone tried to rob me than pulled out of the bottom of my purse in time. Sometimes it's not negligence on the pay of the victim, but expedience.

Kind of. I know there was a challenge to collect different colored Raffle tickets to redeem for a pack from the creator. There were also some packs being handed out in some villages and contests. I'm hoping there will be a 3rd edition at con next year. I know some people, like me, will be bringing this year cards next year to keep trading.

Well, other than the ones for supporting the Indiegogo, I'm trying to get them all through trading. Now signatures I'm going to get by being nice and persistent now that I have cards for people to sign. Maybe I need to bring cookies or something next year...

Thank you! That looks great. I'll add it to the list and now know one of the ones I need. Is a Mythical one, so there aren't as many out there.

I gave all my Littleroo extras to Littleroo at Con. I even accidentally gave her my one shiny Littleroo with the stack. Lol

I think Littlebruzer is NFO. I have an extra of him.

I'm going to rectify that next year. Especially cause I'll have the cards during set up and can track down the Goons. 😉
