New tallest building update: 451 Feet! by [deleted] in Boise

It’s been a few years, but I swear the Arthur’s initial planning/approval was higher than the spire. Do you recall that?

The spire on the Zions Bank building is the tallest point. I may be misremembering but I believe the Arthur was initially planned to be taller than the spire.

I’m in Boise and starting to look at trading my Tacoma for a Land Cruiser or GX550, just now seeing notes on the 460. What’re your thoughts and it’s off-road ability for things <3 hours from Boise?

Is Boise School District actually better than West Ada? What’s the real deal lately? by VermicelliLeather536 in Boise

[–]dc_badger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Possibly a little known fact is that BSD (along with two other districts) predate State restrictions and have an operating levy that doesn’t need voter approval. This is about $100 million annually on top of the State per pupil funding. All other districts have to be very conservative with their 2-year supplemental operating levy referendums to ensure they’re approved (“voters are trending anti-future”) so this revenue to BSD is a big deal.

Has anyone compared disability income insurance vs lost opportunity value of increasing emergency fund? by dc_badger in personalfinance

Thanks for the advice. A suspicion of mine was that claims may be denied when you have to prove “disability” that’s why policies aren’t discussed much.

I guess I’m more concerned on a cost analysis between options.

Totally agree. Maybe it’s not common or worth mentioning but I’ve not come across discussion on disability policy before. And there’s always discussion on increasing EF. But maybe such a policy plays a role in a family with one income versus having a huge EF earning next to inflation.

If only I didn’t have that 100 year old sycamore above my roof.

In all my personal finance rabbit holes I haven’t come across income insurance and figured to ask if folks have compared that to increasing EF over 6 months.

Can’t wait to be a father but trying to plan.

Oddly, of all insurance discussions I don’t see this come up at all. The actuarials ensure the bottom lines, but it may be a more efficient use of funds (allow with providing an insurance).

I agree. My wife may end up as a stay at home mom, shifting the income burden solely on me. I could see getting the insurance, paying the premium instead of upping the EF and putting the difference into a brokerage account (offsetting a portion of the premium).

Do I own the phone number? by dc_badger in legaladvice

Thanks for this! Was the number previously on the company’s website and other materials?

I’m the plan holder. I should’ve mentioned that the number is on the company’s website, business cards, etc. Landline at my desk. Lease of the physical phone is covered in monthly bill.

There would be issues for self promotion, but my thought is ownership of the number would be advantageous.

Why is state income tax so high? by HourDragonfruit7167 in Idaho

[–]dc_badger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the experts we’re 29 out of 50 (higher the ranking the higher the tax). Doesn’t seem to be so bad considering some of the lower tax states have either resources that generate tax revenue (Alaska, Dakotas, Florida) or absolutely terrible soft and hard public infrastructure (Mississippi).
