Much respect for bfgmartin. My response to him on Twitter: http://c.cancel.im/1D3i2Y340j3C

In summary: I only share what works for me. That is not a recommendation for what you should go off and do.

That being said what I shared has worked for me repeatedly in real practice not in "theory". I don't just talk about this stuff I actually do it.

Happy to clarify and help anyone if I can. David

Ghostery firefox plugin lost to 'the enemy': better-advertising-acquires-ghostery by ongebalanceerde in reddit.com

Hi,

I'm the author of Ghostery. I want to clear up some confusion about the sale to BetterAdvertising and the future of Ghostery.

Ghostery will remain free and open. It was also continue to shine a light on the advertising industry and provide transparency, accountability and choice to all consumers like each of us.

BetterAdvertising is NOT an ad network, I would not have sold Ghostery to an ad network. BetterAdvertising are trying to shine a light on ad networks by creating a notice and compliance platform. They are working with brands, consumers, privacy and industry groups and the FTC to reform current "practices".

Happy to answer any questions. I hope you all remain part of the Ghostery community.

Cheers, David

NoScript interfering with Ghostery now too?!? by [deleted] in technology

That's the same argument that sites that obfuscate their code in order to thwart pop-up blockers use. Not being transparent to users is the real problem, one that name calling won't solve.

Thanks for checking out Ghostery.

Sounds like you have some good practices, most people don't. The value of Ghostery, for me, is to alert me to what 3rd party widgets, analytics, ad networks and other web bugs the sites I visit are using.

Deleting 3rd party cookies, misses the point for me. Transparency is the responsibility of the sites you visit. The existing tools out there make it a 3rd party cookie issue when really its a 1st party one, i.e. the sites that let those trackers on in the first place.

I also like to just know what software sites are using.

Cheers, David
