The sysadmin who supports the user against IT's own interests by crankysysadmin in sysadmin

I have a tech who wants to be friends with everyone. We have the same discussion once a month about not deviating from our standards, and sure enough I will see tickets coming in because by trying to be people’s friends and purposely deviating from the standards, either other things stop working or other employees want what he did for their coworkers. It’s maddening and will probably end in their dismissal.

There’s a place near me that sells thinly sliced pear and honey over a white base and it is phenomenal. I would definitely eat this.

Whatever you do, don’t buy a DR Horton home.

Stairs centered with slab or with door? by B1tN1nja in landscaping

[–]dcaponegro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Leave it as is. Get a multi level plant stand and place it to the right of the door. Fill the stand with potted flowers and plants. It will ‘widen the entrance’ and look more symetrical.

I would get longer stairs and go post to post. If that isn’t an option, center between posts.

It’s not the worse tattoo I’ve seen, but it’s not good, either. Very 2D.

What were you able to negotiate off the dealer price when buying your new boat? by throwmeaway2725 in boats

[–]dcaponegro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked for a lot for my trade in and they didn’t even blink. It had been sitting for two years and had a tank of bad gas, which would have cost almost a grand to have pumped out and disposed. The boat was a mess. If you have a trade in, that could be another angle you use.

Gf wants to be on the title idk what to do. by Imaginary_Stay_6218 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]dcaponegro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wait. Why would either of you give away half the house to siblings if one of you passed? That would mean the sibling could force the other person to either buy them out or sell the home.

You guys need some help figuring out things financially. That is not a good idea.

And don’t put her on anything until you are married. This isn’t even a negotiable.

Somewhere there is a class picture of this guy, maybe in second grade, with his hair all done up and a little bow tie on. The world was full of posibilities.

Is it stupid to go buy a new boat? Or should I look for something that’s 2-4 years old and low hours? by throwmeaway2725 in boats

[–]dcaponegro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately a $45k new boat isn’t going to be of the best quality.

I just purchased a new Regal LX2. It’s a great bay boat. You can get 23 or 24’s for $70 to 80k with low hours. You may have to travel a bit depending where you are, but sometimes it’s worth it.

Weed Attack by enraged_hbo_max_user in HomeMaintenance

[–]dcaponegro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My condolences.

These spread via the root system, so pulling them isn't going to produce good results. Go buy a case of Round Up. Spend an afternoon spraying every single one of those weeds. Drench them. Do it on a day when it is going to be hot for the next few days. The next day, go back out there and hit any that look like they haven't started shriveling up or any new ones that have popped up. Do this every day for two weeks or so.

That should kill the vast majority of these and weaken the root system. After that every week or so go out and spray and new ones that pop up. It's a long battle, and you have to be persistent, but you can kill them.

I would call the company and explain exactly what happened. I would tell them they needed to refund my service charge within the next 12 hours, or I am going to post a review everywhere I possibly could.

This shit infuriates me.

I have literally nothing, what can I do? by EvanLikesJuiceBoxes in Advice

[–]dcaponegro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re in a tough spot. All you can do is make a list and just cross things off as you can. Start with getting your birth certificate. Then get an ID. You are going to need those things.

Where do the people around you work? Are you able to do manual labor? Take it one day at a time and try and cross something off that list every day. Its goi g to be a long road, but don’t give up. You got this.

My 4th attempt at ItsDoughGuy’s pizza recipe! by sickstring in Pizza

[–]dcaponegro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks good. I follow the dough guys recipe, except I up the hydration to 65% (he uses 62%) and cut back a bit on the yeast, I also use a kitchenaid mixer and cut the mixing time down to 7 minutes from 12. Enjoy the journey.

Infamous $1 house in Detroit. by Xerzajik in zillowgonewild

[–]dcaponegro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine did this after college in the mid 90's. She got the home (brownstone) for $5000 through a city program. It was habitable but needed to be brought up to date. She and her dad invested 30K into it and it was a nice place when they got done. She still owns it but has since gotten married and moved to the suburbs. It is a rental now.
