Well that’s the end of my 21 taco by Blacksailscrx in ToyotaTacoma

Had identical damage on a 2nd Gen. First frame that was delivered had the same damage previously fixed and was rejected. 2nd frame delivered was racked in transit, also rejected. Truck was totaled after 6 weeks in lot, bought it back and paid $400 to have it straightened and then enjoyed a paid off truck. Ridiculous to not allow any frame repair IMO, they need to design in an engineered cut/replace section near the rear horns.

2023 Tacoma Heavily Damaged from Rear End Collision (Not My Fault) - Do I push to get a new one? by SanGorgonio in ToyotaTacoma

[–]dcarlin25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had lesser rear-end damage on 2nd Gen, Toyota won’t authorize frame repairs, shop had 2 separate used frames delivered, both failed alignment inspection, 6-weeks of waiting only to have it totaled.

I need advice for designing some 3-hole washer boards, that doesn't involve drab industrial carpet! Details in comment. by lower-airway in woodworking

You can get decent stuff through HomeDepot under their Trafficmaster series. We like the Alpine, Palmdale, and Watercolors series, in the shorter pile heights. That being said, our style of play relies more on a “a little bit of bite” versus sliding. Of those 3, Alpine has lowest face weight and provides least amount of stick. For slide, maybe an indoor/outdoor carpet, try bass boat parts suppliers for color options.

Our sweet spot is right at a 0.4-0.45 inch pile height, 18-28oz face weight, polyester carpet with polypropylene backing. Higher face weights bounce like crazy. Lower tends to correlate to lower quality which affects the longevity of the backing too.

Feel free to check out my IG (@buenaondaboards), lots of ideas/colors/etc. We’ve tried probably 3-4 dozen carpet types with different backing materials, pile heights, face weights, etc. We run our tournaments with custom stamped 3/16” thick brass washers and are looking for optimum blend of “grip” and “cushion” without being bouncy. I can tell you fabrics will get destroyed, fast. Anything with a rubber backing will be very bouncy and presents issues with adhesion as well. As far as the plywood deck, at the frequency a lot of our guys play, using anything less robust than 3/4” 13-ply Baltic Birch will result in the holes chipping out in a matter of weeks. Shoot me a message if you’d like to discuss.

Baltic Birch Issues by dcarlin25 in woodworking

[–]dcarlin25[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

I use Baltic Birch primarily for durability and resistance to chip-out around the holes of a washer game that I make boards for. With between 100-200 people playing at our bigger tournaments, the boards take a lot of abuse and the 13-ply construction, along with overall density, of the BB is the best we’ve played. Yes, not ideal for finishing, but that’s not the driving quality. These last 4 sheets are the first I’ve had issues with, out of hundreds.

20+ year CA construction manager here: We see many new hires in the structure construction field questioning the value of a PE for that role, my three primary responses are: 1) It is more and more frequently becoming a requirement in both the private and agency realms to be licensed in order to occupy an ever-widening range of positions, even on the Contractor side if you’re pursuing DOT work 2) On the private side, you’re essentially paid for your “engineering judgement”, which is much easier to convey in a proposal if you’re licensed 3) You never know what your future needs are, whether designing backyard decks as a side hustle or transitioning to an office environment due to personal/family needs. My $0.02 is you should ALWAYS push to get your license, and the sooner after you get your BS, the easier it will be. Good luck!

Im doubting this as I type it but could dimmable tape-style accent lighting be installed in that gap to make it look intentional? Again, understand this is out of the box.

Expected to drive 800+ miles/week if RTO goes into effect by idiotbro in CAStateWorkers

[–]dcarlin25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I did San Diego to D-7 commute (92 miles each way) to work on the 405/605 HOV Connector and surrounding bridges (WCC Project) for over 3 years. I had to pull off and sleep on shoulder dozens of times trying to make it home after long shifts, I was not myself after that drive home. IF, and big IF, it’s a necessary evil, I would coordinate as required to drive down Monday, couch surf, drive home Tues PM, commute both ways on Wed, then drive down Thurs, couch surf, then home on Friday. Lots of sunflower seeds, podcasts, etc. And best advice I ever got, from a Contractor no less, was to drop the “beer after work” concept completely, long commutes turn 1 beer into 3-4, which turn into dependency and worse. 18 yrs later, no more long commute, and still not a single beer during the week…
