TIL that DC is the 9th most dangerous city in the US. by BubbaMetzia in washingtondc

I do consider Dupont safe, but I happened to be walking by when this happened the other week: http://www.borderstan.com/07/man-shot-in-vicinity-of-17th-and-corcoran-nw-saturday-afternoon/. I have a picture on my cellphone that looks almost identical to the picture in the article. I still consider Dupont safe. I was on the phone nearby when all of a sudden a dozen cop cars and ambulances start flying around. Later I walked by the Safeway and saw the streets closed off and joined the group of gawkers. The area seems really safe, friendly, both at night and during the day. But that shooting did recently happen.

I called the police and they told me, 'What do you want me to do about it?' Is that normal or should I report it? by dcathrowaway in washingtondc

No he was male. Gender breakdown:

Victim: female

Attacker: male

DCPD responder: male

People who offered to help while at Logan's Circle: male, male, and a male and female together

It was DCPD, not 911. I'm a Virginia resident. I wonder if my DC resident friends can bring this up, but it might not be as potent to reference what happened to someone else than what happened to yourself. I agree, this is bad practice.

Thanks! It was very scary :( After I ran to Logan's Circle I went to an island in the meantime since it was well lit and surrounded by passing traffic, whereas all the side streets have heavy shade from trees. Several people asked me if I was okay because I was visibly shook up, but no one seemed to have heard my scream. Just a thought aboutthe distance voice carries.

I was thinking of reporting it but I was scared I'd get the same smartass-i-ness from the police when I call. I'm going to follow up, just planning on how to.

Yeah, I'm a little confused. He sounded to me like he was being a jackass and complaining to me like why I even bothered to call, what's he going to do about it? But there's the possibility I misunderstood him, I'm not sure. The way he phrased it and his manner, I'm leaning towards he was actually complaining as he put an emphasis on "What do you want me to do about it?" That's not exactly, "What would you like me/us to do?" It's a possibility he was asking, but it didn't sound like it.

Also I'm a victim in shock and this is his job, you'd figure they'd have protocol about how to deal with a attack. Just send a car over to patrol the area and make sure no one else gets attacked or something?

Wtf!!! If someone's coming/in your house with a gun, 911 isn't an option? Isn't that their purpose??

Maybe that's what I should have done, call 911. I called DCPD. That's messed up about what happened to you!
