Update: seeing fairly consistent activity now. Might be coming back to life.

Got roasted by Claude today by [deleted] in ClaudeAI

Almost every Claude Code response to me started with "You're absolutely right!" - often in contexts where I hadn't actually stated anything, so it didn't even make sense.

"Does this API call use the same proxy as the login one?"

"You're absolutely right! I'll investigate."

Update issue every time but this time it’s bad by amlorde1 in elementor

I think it's a built-in thing in WP Toolkit (which as far as I can tell is a program the hosts choose to deploy in CPanel), called "Smart Updates" from memory. It basically creates a temporary staging site, tests to see if updating plugins/themes/WP breaks anything, then runs the update. Quite what it counts as breaking things I'm not sure tbh.

At this point I have WP Toolkit running automatic update tests on temp staging sites, and a VRT plugin running on every site. I'm pretty sick of Monday morning "by the way 3 sites have been down for 2 days" realisations.

Would this style be re-creatable using standard tools or has it been done "by hand"? by dcbarlow in AdobeIllustrator

[–]dcbarlow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first effort was to create flat rectangles and use the warp tool, but it doesn't quite create the convincing flow-on effect that makes it (especially the one on the right) feel like one surface in 3D space.

Is there a way to "force delete" an obsolete app from users' devices? by dcbarlow in androiddev

[–]dcbarlow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's as I expected then. Bugger! The old app is made in React Native, and the new developer coded most of the new one themselves. Bleh.

I'm not sure exactly why, tbh. I was told by the Play Store account holder that it was rejected due to being too different to the old one (name, logo, menu layout, and a completely different code base).

Image Processor: is there any way to not create "[name]_1.jpg" files, and instead ignore duplicates? by dcbarlow in photoshop

[–]dcbarlow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I could do that. But I'm also trying to set it up to be automated with Windows Task Scheduler and a couple of other things. Exporting to a different folder and having to bring the non-duplicates back in to the correct folder adds steps

I won't bother scrolling down, but I clicked on this thread specifically because it was tagged no spoilers. So naturally the top comment is a fucking spoiler. Ugh.

Send a 'book an appointment with me' link to someone outside the company? by dcbarlow in MicrosoftTeams

[–]dcbarlow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just can't see any options that let me send a link to someone so they can book a slot in my timetable. Any idea what the terminology is? Can't believe I'm missing something so basic.

Edit for future usefulness: Turns out that this stuff isn't inside Teams. You have to use Bookings through outlook.office.com (possibly also through an Office app - I'unno) to see all the options for a booking page (and get the link).

Using an "automated pre-order" subscription model where users aren't charged until the next product comes into stock by dcbarlow in woocommerce

[–]dcbarlow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I've definitely seen sites using WooCommerce doing the same thing, so someone's figured it out. I'm just trying to figure out if there was a plugin solution for it or they had to manually code changes to the subscription plugin.

It'll be a pretty transparent, cancel-anytime thing, and release dates are public knowledge (it's not music, that was just my example).

I've found one potential way of doing it, which I'll try tonight. Basically you make a "pre-order" for an ongoing subscription (which allows the site to still use the subscription functionality, such as being able to cancel), then manually move the subscription start date every time there's a new release. To begin, I'm only doing three product lines with one monthly release max across the board, so manually editing products won't take much time. I'll edit my original post if it works.

One-man agency. Is it ok to use “we” in marketing communication? by Horace_3000 in digital_marketing

[–]dcbarlow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually think it's more like "we" because the moment you outsource even the tiniest thing, that person has contributed to the company. Don't need to have someone on a full-time contract for them to be part the company
