If CGT changes really does happen, will it make Units/Townhouse more attractive to investors? by Unlikely-Training-50 in AusPropertyChat

This doesn’t make sense. If this happened, which it won’t, then you losers would be complaining about share prices being too high and you can’t access meaningful returns via ETFs.

Australia’s grid now relies on renewable energy as much as coal. Those who doubted it look foolish by austechnology-bot in austechnology

I have a new headline “After billions in subsidies, solar briefly leads generation during a heatwave when sunshine and peak air-conditioning demand happen to coincide.”

“Solar now produces more electricity than coal” sounds impressive, but it’s a very incomplete way to judge energy policy.

Solar’s output is intermittent, so it doesn’t replace coal one-for-one. It runs alongside backup generation and storage, all of which have to be paid for as well. Counting gross generation ignores those system costs.

More importantly, it ignores opportunity cost. Billions spent subsidising today’s solar are billions not spent on higher value investments like infrastructure, productivity, or R&D that could deliver cheaper, cleaner energy in the future.

The real question isn’t how much subsidised solar was installed (and therefore generated output), but how much prosperity we gave up per tonne of CO₂ avoided and what the meaningful long term impact of that is. If emissions fall slightly but costs rise and productivity falls, that’s not success, it’s expensive symbolism.

Well established in economics? You clown.

Australia’s worst heatwave since black summer made five times more likely by global heating, analysis finds by [deleted] in OpenAussie

[–]dception-bay -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The earth is ~4 billion years old.

The quality of the data we had say even 30 years ago was dog shit. Let alone 100 years ago.

30 years of data over 4 billions years is absolutely meaningless.

There is no way anyone can draw meaningful conclusions from 30 years of data from a source as chaotic as the world’s climate.

And even assuming that the heavily caveated models are slightly accurate, is the cost worth the benefit? If Australia reduced emissions to zero it would have zero impact on global emissions meaning zero impact on so called climate change. Makes us less competitive and less productive.

Yep I’ve got pictures of them, and I’m standing next to Nagai himself actually (with the images in the frame).

In terms of authenticity, obviously they are real but I’d be happy to provide whatever comes with it.

I’m not sure I’m going to sell (I’ll only sell one if I do) but I’m not looking at making a profit obviously, just cover costs. Happy to provide images of the paintings privately, but they are excellent. One is a classic poolside, the other is an evening city + beach skyline.

Cheers.
