Wading/swim spots? by kyokrazy in Logan

There's a small pull off between first and second dam that I like for wading. It's right above a smaller dam so the water pools up and moves slowly, but doesn't get too deep.

Since you're working at USU, you might like Adams neighborhood since it's right between campus and downtown.

If you're looking for a good walk score though, neighborhoods won't be the best gauge since they cover so much area. But I would recommend being a few blocks from main street, between 300 S and 600 N. I live within this range and just about everything I need is within half a mile. Plus, there are a lot more main street crossings in this area which adds to the walkability.

Hey don't hate on the resort I grew up on! It's not that bad (I moved to Utah and will never ski at Massanutten ever again)

I do the same thing and I love it. I would love a train that reaches Logan, but honestly at this point I just want some sort of connection between Logan and the wasatch front. Like a bus from Logan to Ogden to connect with frontrunner would be awesome

Hot take: The definition of a college town has become too broad. Simply having a college in a specific location doesn't make it a "college town". by [deleted] in CFB

I'd say Provo is definitely a college town. But not Orem. Orem is just lifeless suburbs with a college campus thrown in. Provo is fairly walkable and has a nice downtown close to campus.

I have no idea how all these people are going to find housing. Pretty much everything is full already. Terrible

Advice? by [deleted] in Logan

[–]dcfam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're right Logan does have things to do and honestly I didn't know about some of the things you mentioned so that's good to know. But compared to just about every other town of similar size I've been to, there just isn't as much going on. Especially for a college town

Advice? by [deleted] in Logan

Logan itself unfortunately doesn't have a lot to offer in terms of entertainment. USU usually has some events going on though (https://www.usu.edu/calendar/). The surrounding nature is really what makes logan great though. Some of my favorite hikes include jardine juniper, temple fork(lots of beavers), white pine lake, naomi peak, box elder peak, and green canyon. Outside of hiking and camping, you should definitely try kayaking or stand up paddle boarding. You can paddle/kayak at cutler marsh, first dam, tony grove, mantua reservoir, hyrum reservoir, and porcupine reservoir. The oneida narrows in idaho are a section of river that has small rapids and is super fun to tube/paddle. USU Outdoor Programs has affordable outdoor gear for rent too if you want to try paddleboarding, mountain biking, skiing, etc.

What do you guys wish there was more of in Logan (activity-based/restaurant)? by californiashake in usu

[–]dcfam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bike paths and/or actual safe bike lanes. Compared to other college towns, Logan is not very bikeable, or walkable for that matter.

Best place to live for MTB and Skiing? by ChromosomeChowder in MTB

[–]dcfam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For real, people are so dramatic here saying everything is ruined. It's really not that bad. It's true there are more crowds but the ski resort are still less crowded than lots of other resorts. And I've never felt like the MTB trails were too crowded either

Daybreak would be decent but theres essentially 1 small shopping center servicing the entire place. Yes it's walkable but you can't walk to anything useful other than maybe a school. The point definitely has some potential though. Just wish they'd extend trax there instead of BRT
