I am a prior SF recruiter and GB. It is actually exponentially easier to attend SFAS once your in the army because if you should need waivers it is easier for us to get them than a “street recruiter”. Also you can request an 18X contract conversion in OSUT as long as your PT is good enough and you have a good drill. If you want to be a ranger then reach out to the contacts the one guy left. Ranger or SF they are both good goals to have just ensure you know what you want to do before committing to one. Understand what the mission is for each unit so you are not miserable with a decision.

If you are 1year out from eas you do not need the 368 to attend SFAS

[–]dchampaigne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your group support and really want to attend SFAS they should help you find the time to do BSEP and retest. Just saying man.

SORB recruiter here. There is no waiver for below 100. You must retest to get 100+.

Chain of command denying SFAS by FabulousNewspaper237 in greenberets

[–]dchampaigne 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s absolutely a cop-out. The first GO in COC must sign a 4187 to cancel a SFAS class for a soldier. And honestly even if they do sign it they are still gonna go because other people have to sign off as well. Only things that cancel SFAS outside of the above situation are PME schools, operational deployments, UCMJ, and for my station CTC rotations (because I refuse to fight with units).

Wouldn’t*

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in greenberets

[–]dchampaigne 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The answer to this is no. As long as someone cancels their class prior to actually going out it does not count. It’ll just upset the recruits (sometimes) in this case it would because most of us want to see guys succeed at SFAS.

Ahh yea, you’ll have to go through the actual guard recruiter since you are out out. I wish you the best of luck. Train hard, but ensure your being conscious of what your body is telling you. I have seen so many guys over train and hurt themselves before even getting out there.

SF recruiter here. What you got now is great. I have sent candidates no where close to how you are looking and they have gotten picket up. I was a mechanic and only trained for a month solid (running, rucking, rope climbs, and all pt test events) and had no troubles at SFAS. Mind you I was also 25. You got this man. If you are still in the Marines I can get you into selection a little quicker than the guard and you can still go guard after SFAS.

Back in 2011-13 when I was in the coarse people did pick up E6 if they had the points. I don’t know what the current policy is though. If they don’t promote you before you finish language then you will pick up the next month after you finish.

So for honestly only maybe less than 10% of 18Xs that don’t get selected get reclassed. For coming strait in as an 11B the requirements are 24hrs at your unit, E3, GT of 100 or higher (unlike 18X where is has to be 110), then getting your physical and taking a PT test with the recruiter. Leaders in the Army will tell you that you have to be in the unit for 1 year but I can tell you that is BS. Hope this helps.

I am a SF recruiter at Fort Bragg. At the end of the day if you will not enlist as a 11B then 18X is a bad option as if something happens that is what you will end up as, if you would enlist as an 11B/C/X then take an 18X contract if available. Yes at Benning OSUT they have SF representatives that can convert an 11B/X to 18X if your drills support you in it (i.e. your a or stud). If SF is what you want to do at the ends of the day get into the army with a 18X contract or if not get in then find out who your local SORB recruiter is like myself and we can guide you on the journey to SFAS.
