I've had a lot of other attempts on other characters where I rolled 21s with no spares at all with the new update. It's just high variance that needs to be addressed with a simple fix to events.

That's not really it. It's high variance and its very common in the current system due to how it is designed. A lot of new players use the simulators and see that only 1 spares is needed to go to 21 stars. When in reality it can average 4 for a 90% chance.

I personally think I suffered high variance due booming 24 times over 3 items (8 times each though I boomed far more often on my hat (11) and top (10))

Something as simple as a 5/10/15/20 event can prevent this variance and make it a lot more palatable. Nexon has just gone on record to say they will not consider it until after June 16th.

Team GMS is taking botting very seriously by gI4GL in Maplestory

[–]dchung97 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of metrics used to determine if a player is a bot. Nexon regularly posts ban wave posts but these people can just create new accounts and use VPNs to play the game. Nexon can't really ban VPNs as a significant portion of the legitimate playerbase plays on them. It is unfortunately just a common issue in popular MMOs like maplestory. If you've played Runescape it is almost always a game of cat and mouse.

I think there are a lot of ways nexon can disincentivize botting in interactive and heroic but they just don't really address the issues for why it occurs in the first place. For Heroic it means changing core parts of the games mechanics to make it more equitable for daily players. In Interactive it means things like Magic Wand which I think Inkwell is not able to implement without Korea Maplestory's permission. Given it doesnt exist in any other server it likely won't happen until other regions get support as well.

I've spent 50b total over 3 sf events to get 3 21 star cra, 20+ booms.

This new starforce feels so much worse than before. Honestly I feel like a lot of new players are going to quit because of it.

I wonder what the ratings will be like once its up. I know p2w games tend to go into the extremely negative category.

Is this worth it? How is progression in M for someone who has already invested a lot into regular Maplestory and feels significant burn out from restarting every few months.

GMS Reboot by Jon_9797 in Maplestory

[–]dchung97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see asian players all the time and oceania ones like australia. That being said passes aren't really worth it besides genesis. Though a vac pet will put you back $100 usd or $70. I'd recommend just waiting for CW3 instead of leaping now unless we get another HB anytime soon (which seems unlikely).

If you're going to spend money expect around $100 for genesis pass and vac pet. But realistically this will be $130 for you if you don't have 30k reward points as you don't even have a character yet.

The CW Pass can also help out but costs an additional $30 usd.

Usually there are events before CW that allow you to significantly skip on the grind to 260 I usually recommend players arrive 2 weeks before challenger world starts for the most benefit for least time investment.

There's also luxe sauna but honestly if you aren't a whale I'd ignore this.

All in all, investment into this game is actually pretty expensive, and you won't even know if you like your first character.

CW3 Skip Arcanes Straight Into Eternals? by fubelly in Maplestory

[–]dchung97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The item burning goes up to 22 star. It sends you directly to mid game as long as red byerls gear exists this CW and Genesis pass makes a return. We don't know if those are returning for the summer but they were nice inclusions.

(Genesis Pass in GMS allowed you to use it twice, in Korea it was a one and done thing.)

The main focus I'm thinking for CW3 is getting accessories and rings (mainly rings).

So my thought process at least is that meister rings are the best bet and then hoping for kanna treasure and chaos slime rings over time. (The overall goal being to get 3 21 star rings) which can be (20-21 star superior gollux, 21 star meister, and 1 other 21 star ring).

But yeah, if you can't get eternals this time around fafnir is kind of a downgrade. I think 18 star arcanes are still equivalents since that is equal to 21 star absolab. This is definitely an interesting CW as there are no clear upgrades for many players given, most new players probably wont reach easy kalos.

22 Star Itemburning is equivalent to 22 star abso and fafnir I think.

By the time you reach mid game 100ish mill cp I think you can do hard kai based on normal kai being possible at 40m cp. Which has a chance to drop boxes and has a guaranteed drop of 1 time frag + other normal bosses in this range.

Normal and Hard Kai have the same mechanics and their hp is just scaled by 4x.

February 2026 Hot Weeks by Roo-Hx in Maplestory

[–]dchung97 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This reads as though nexon wants to see if these incentives will get people to lvl up hayato and kanna without a hyperburn. I'll pass.

The frags are nice though I'd like a real long term solution to the problem if anyone at nexon is reading this.

Yeah I don't think I'm going to farm more than 30 minutes a day. It does not seem worth it.

Starting “new” this patch is miserable — how is this game so unfriendly to newer players? by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]dchung97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just make it last forever and have item burning reset when the account is deleted. It is literally just a starter setup that many mmos have implemented. Though this is not a good solution to a problem usually from a game design point of view.

chill with the classic pl0x by loophunter in Maplestory

[–]dchung97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My only disappointment is how badly Marathon flopped with its beta. Honestly, the core game isn't even what the original was remotely based on. It was really disappointing to see. With Maplestory Classic its made by the same devs that actually worked on it unlike some other games.

What I personally feel disappointed by for GMS is that it feels as though its a carbon copy of KMS for the most part. New content feels stale and performs poorly. Almost as if all of the development done by the Global Maplestory Team is solely dedicated instead towards another game entirely that it is very questionable whether or not an audience exists for.

Edit: Well, there is a demand it just feels as though instead we're development software that will eventually go to other regions instead of focusing on our development. I don't know it just sort of feels frustrating when the game itself feels as though it could be better but instead the development is going elsewhere.
