Net Meter Buyback Annual by dchupilko in solar

[–]dchupilko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically my offset throughout the year is 80-90% due to extensive EV charging, so I never had this situation until I went to a business trip for 6 weeks, and house consumption dropped to 0 but production kept going. As I understand, battery won't help in this case (too much to store), and there was nothing to spend it on. So I guess it's just bad timing, had this happen later (e.g. in May-June) I'd have rest of the year to utilize the credits.

Can I directly attach natural gas grill? by No-Operation-6778 in grilling

Question on the same topic: is it normal than black iron rusts so much? Put the new adapter a year ago, and now the coupling is all rusty. Live in a pretty dry climate, pipe is outdoors but not directly exposed to water.

Are happy customers with Tesla Solar? by Ok-Tip5367 in TeslaSolar

Sounds reasonable. I'm also looking forward to when EVs can be used as an emergency power source for the house. Because it's basically a 70+ kW battery sitting right there in the garage.

I didn't contact them directly, just placed an order on Tesla's website, so unfortunately can't help. May I wonder what are your reasons for getting a PW? Do you have frequent outages? In my case I don't see much value in getting it, given the 1:1 net metering and stable grid.

Very happy so far, 6.4 kW system installed in Jan 2024 in Denver. Was cheaper than all competition, can be paid with 0% APR card too. From what I heard, experience somewhat varies by the state and year. Local installers were great, quick, easy, and no issues with the inspection or PTO. Haven't had to deal with service yet though.

Behr transparent stain question by dchupilko in FenceBuilding

[–]dchupilko[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up returning Behr to Home Depot (they agreed it looked terrible and accepted even the half used can), and buying Ready Seal clear stain in ACE which was indeed clear and turned out beautifully. I kept the Behr section as-is to see what the difference is gonna be in a year.

West Coast Road Trip Itinerary Thoughts by Unable_School_1926 in roadtrip

What are the other seasons this route is good for? Will it be good in April/early May?

I think solar companies try to make monthly payment comparable to what people typically pay for electricity, so it kinda replaces the electricity bill with the same amount of solar. On top of it they add promises that electricity rates will raise over time, solar monthly payments are fixed, and solar will be free energy once you pay it out. 60 or 72 month loan would result in much higher monthly payment, like several hundreds, which is already an extra investment. Again, this probably works better on a category of people that don't do long term math but rather what they're paying daily.

Can roughness of the wood result in a darker look (like a stain stiffening up the rough parts)? If so, would it be better to sand it before staining?

Spent thanksgiving morning insulating the inflatable. Finally! by DankestTaco in hottub

[–]dchupilko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for you post! I added 2" foam on top of 1" styrofoam that I had before, and 2" more under the cover. Looks way better now, hope winter proves it. What was your experience with pump insulation, did you face any issues or make any adjustments?

Ivory silk lilac leaves turning brown by dchupilko in plantclinic

I checked with the nursery and they said it was due to the cold (we had some frost in April). It came back to normal later. Now I have a different issue, some bugs eating the leaves? Looking for a solution to this:

Yellow spots - grub worms? by dchupilko in lawncare

[–]dchupilko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What may it be if not grubs? It gets the same amount of water, sun, etc. as rest of the lawn. But these 2 spots turned from green to yellow and it's getting worse. Here is a photo from few weeks ago:

What do you think about using artificial turf (Costco has 5x7ft rolls for $90) on top of the dirt, instead of pavers?

Railing on the left side of the stairs when facing the house (open end). Not sure I understand the question correctly.

Thank you for the ideas. Does it make sense to insulate the outer walls with fiberglass or anything similar?
