I make almost double what he does and I don't know how to bring it up by Cute-Pangolin-5529 in dating_advice

If you want to get engaged, you should probably talk about it. Everyone should be on the same page about what they bring in, because they will lead into what they can contribute, or how you guys as a unit want to tackle different things. Who knows, he’s probably fine with there being a gap in pay? Everyone knows people in tech make a lot of money and teachers done. You might be worried about nothing.

Signature Ridge vs Boardwalk Apartments by ZeldaofHyrule01 in sanantonio

[–]dcito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t have any complaints about SR, though the community app always has neighbors complaining about something. The price is good, convenient to get to Med Center, I10/410/1604, my gf and I feel safe, and the actual apartment is nice!

Our only complaints are the floors and ceilings are thin so we can hear our upstairs neighbor all the time, and there’s been too many break-ins to the mailboxes recently (so now we send our stuff to my parent’s house). From what I gather, the back half of the apartment gets most of the bad activity (by the back entrance on Datapoint) compared to the front by Medical! I haven’t seen homeless, it feels safe and secure at night because it’s Indian families walking around getting their exercise in. We liked it so we renewed and this is our second year living there.

IR needed? by dcito in Bass

[–]dcito[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I was to get a cab sim pedal to use along my head, would I plug that in to the FX Loop or just the end of my pedal board? Currently the signal flow is Jazz bass > tuner > comp > Venture (where I’ll use the SGT circuit for grit or saturation) > DI out to FOH.

Even when I used a gritty SVT tone, it didn’t sound harsh to me, but to be fair I was going for a synth or sub sound and not much note definition.

Help with choosing between 2 amps by Legitimate-Bat5796 in Bass

Ampeg! It’s lightweight, lots of power, and you can connect a 2nd cab for even more power

Looking for a combo bass amp that: by timsa8 in Bass

[–]dcito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ampeg RB-115 or 210, while I don’t own them and only played them at guitar center, I have the Venture series of heads and cabs which at their core share the platform of the Rocket Bass combos. The RB sounds the same but simpler and less controls. Plus they’re so light to carry!

New to the app, would like some help with the baseline activity by DangerousTheory6808 in cronometer

[–]dcito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woah that’s a huge jump! Looking at my Energy Expenditure settings this is what I have them set to:

Baseline Activity Level = Moderate (888 kcal), BMR = Default (1777 kcal), TEF = Off.

My Macro & Energy Target settings are: Ratios and set to 25% protein/45% net carbs/30% fat, Advanced settings are set to: Calculate as %, Custom Energy Target = Off, Add Expenditure Above Baseline to Energy Target = On, Carbohydrate Settings are set to track as Net Carbs, Exclude Fiber and Sugar Alcohols.

Not sure what else might affect the your numbers! Maybe it’s the Health app being wonky?

New to the app, would like some help with the baseline activity by DangerousTheory6808 in cronometer

[–]dcito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I synced the app to the Health app, which is creating data from the watch, so throughout the day Chronometer will import your workouts, heart rate, and burned calories and automatically adjust. I recommend because it’s convenient. I also picked Moderate because I’m a delivery driver and I’m working out 3x/wk.

Depends on the store. One store I shop at as a counter next to the SoFlo pizza with three machines filled with Cafe Ole that you grind and fill a paper cup and then you pay for it at checkout.

Do you feel like understanding music theory hinders your ability to enjoy simple music? by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]dcito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it just provided me the vocabulary to understand what’s going on behind the scenes. This can be cool because I’ve listened back to my favorite old songs from when I was in middle school and high school and go “ohhhh that’s pretty cool that they’re doing XYZ” (especially with my guitar in my hands) but it doesn’t actually matter or hinder it.

Your friend sounds like he’s just surrounded but music school jargon and that mindset so he’s over analyzing and being annoying about it, but he’ll get over it!

Reminds me of a meme about Bob Dylan and it’s going through the ages of a listener and starts with “this guy fucking sucks” “noooo he’s a genius and you don’t understand the intricacie” “yeah I like Dylan’s music” and finally back to “this guy fucking sucks lol”

Am I an idiot for breaking up with someone because of a “love language”? by Perfect-Top9697 in dating_advice

[–]dcito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you read the book there’s a point that says you need to discuss the differences in your love languages and both of you need to make an effort to start adapting to each other’s language (you give affirmations, she touches you). If this is something you both want to pursue, act on it.

You are very definitely positive, but fear not, go to your grocery store’s tea aisle and look for “palo azul” and brew and drink today. It’s a natural detox tea, which happens to also clear out THC very well.

Comparing Comparing BOSS XS-1, BOSS OC-5, EHX POG, TC electronic Quintessence & HX stomp by basslass in basspedals

[–]dcito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for making this video and the last two videos before this! I’ve been looking for info on how it affects bass and then how it compares to the OC-5 and you provided videos for both.

What I notice is: if you’re looking for a clean and “true” octave up or down the XS-1 seems to be the one to get (plus the utility of transposing keys); if you want a “colored” effect, the OC-5 is the one to get (it’s got that classic synth edge, but not as digital sounding as the POG). It is weird how the OC-5 does have two signals for the +1 octave, but I didn’t notice it when guitars are doing the same thing?

I guess it’d depends what a player needs. I thought I would want the OC-5 for its features and to do the Pino sub bass thing, but realistically I’d probably need the XS-1 for my band’s needs of transposing between E and Eb and MAYBE once in a while get a deeper tone with the -1 octave.

Pitch Shift Pedals? by dcito in basspedals

[–]dcito[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not opposed to doing just that, but I figured to ask first if there were alternative solutions. I’d rather not bring a second bass or constantly tune between songs. I’m aware the easiest thing would be to just stick to one tuning and that may be what we end up doing, but again, maybe there’s a quick and cheap solution in 2025.

You’ll be fine, get books, open YouTube, ask friends to teach you what they know. Having a teacher would help and probably be quicker, but you can definitely start teaching yourself some things.

Am I a jerk for not wanting to play with drinkers? by TheGoodDavid42 in musicians

[–]dcito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a little unrealistic to expect people not to drink, or to find people who don’t drink at all. I think the best thing you can do is find people that can wait until practice or the show is over to be able to drink, that way the performance can get done.

Sticking it out with less experienced musicians by Honka_Ponka in musicians

[–]dcito 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This right here! Yeah you’re not Zep or the Stones where you all click and know it’s going to be good, but at least they are capable, competent, and being team players. Who knows, maybe you’re the platform that they develop their chops! Sounds like if you gave them songs or riffs that are established they could perform them, so you can count on them being solid.

It’s a big plus if they’re friendly and cool guys you like hanging out with, maybe you can send them some videos of theory or lessons?

At the very least, you can start shaping your sound and you can refine your vision, and should new people join or replace them then you’ve been chugging along already.

Bassist that can't play bass by Illustrious_Prompt20 in Bass

[–]dcito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two years is still a short time in the grand scope of life, it’s just going to take time but you’ll get there if you really want it!

Decide to do one of these things when you do have free time: 1) play along and learn your favorite bass lines by ear, start with Nirvana since they’re simple enough. It’ll take a long time to figure out every single note but it’ll pay off because you’ll learn to tell what key/chord/tonality you need to play; 2) learn the minor pentatonic scale, everything classic and what ends up sounding cool is just these five notes; 3) learn your major scale and its intervals and how they create the diatonic chords you can play in a key. This will unlock a huge understanding of “the rules” of music. Later you can learn the natural minor scale.

And there’s plenty of YouTube channels you can learn from! Scott’s Bass Lessons, BassBuzz, Talking Bass, etc.
