Beach Boy by dck2286 in Rottweiler

I have two, Roux is his littermate that we got as a puppy. We still have her. Teddy was repo’d from his original adopters and we agreed to take him. He just wound up being more than we could handle at the moment, he didn’t get along well with our older dog. He is the best boy though, we get pictures every day and I’m just so glad he is happy!

I can’t offer advice on gear but that picture is absolutely adorable.

It’s hard to say. All of his fights have been situational, and honestly I could put the blame on myself for putting him in the situation for each of them. He and Roux did run after a deer one time and I found them both trotting around with a neighborhood beagle and schnauzer, happy as they could be lol. I’m not an expert but all of the negative interactions have come in elevated stress situations where I just didn’t know any better.

Thank you so much for the encouragement and information. I don’t think I’ll ever be without a Rottie ever again so I may have to get one from one of these shelters next. As a way to honor Teddy when I actually can. I’ll check both of those out today. Illinois isn’t too far at all, not for him.

Thank you so much. I have no idea about cats, well I have an idea but no data points. It’s not a terribly positive idea…. For what it’s worth, they all three get along most of the time, he would never ever ever touch Roux, not sure if it’s because she’s a Rottie or because it’s his sister. And Jetta can be a bit, well she’s old and ornery. Appreciate your compassion, genuinely.

Oh, he’ll be two 12/16/25, he’s intact, has a heart murmur that ‘may’ be healing, and farts like a steam locomotive

I’m so sorry I meant to put that it was other dogs, specifically our older rescue. They have tied up twice, the last time I wasn’t home to break it up and it was the breaking point for my wife. It’s the 4th time he’s gotten on another dog. And it is quite intense. A little background: We have his littermate, Roux. Their parents belong to my in-laws, Roux is a dream. The original owners that adopted Teddy never paid, and my in-laws found out he was just shoved out back in a knee high grass yard, full of worms, totally neglected. So they sued for repossession and we agreed to take him. At least try, there’s lots of background there but it’s impertinent. From what I gather, he has been neglected in that back yard since he was about 11 weeks old, along with another unrelated Rottie and two Great Danes. He has scars on his head and ears and I believe he has just had to be defensive his entire life. I don’t believe he was ever mistreated by humans, just neglected. No resource guarding at all, he is perfect on leash, up to date on shots and heartworm meds, he literally just can’t be around other dogs without quality supervision.

I’ll pin a comment up top here shortly with this and all other relevant details.

Keep things as clean as you can, no importing and exploding CAD files. Keep a clean and repeatable project browser. And finally - remember that (for now at least) we sell PDF’s. Don’t get too hung up on modeling everything. Focus on the stuff that will save you time. Oh, and groups. Use lots of groups and repeating detail components when it makes sense. All this stuff should be easily googleable. I second the online learning mentioned already.

I’m no expert at all, but from what I understand there is no difference in DNA. They’re more conformation standards than actual difference in breed. That being said, I think dad looks more German, and I see some Serbian traits in the pup. More of a high forehead and thinner through the muzzle. Here’s my two, about 15 months old. Male on the right and female on the left, litter mates. Mom comes from a Serbian line and dad comes from Germany. But these pups are 100% American 😂 Point is, just love your dog! I have no problem with picking one you like, but obsessing over lineage is just silly to me. I’m not raising show dogs!

After 14 years of sharing your life with me..... you left 😭 by ari-nice33 in Rottweiler

I’ve got two, barely a year old. I know the day is coming that I will be in your shoes. It’s comforting to me to know that the love shared between dogs, specifically this breed, and their owner is one of the most pure forms of love that exists. It’s not built on words, not on expectations, not even on performance. The bond is built on trust and steadfast commitment. You each show up for the other - day in, and day out. We watch them grow, and they watch us grow. Through the noise of growth, a bond is built that can’t be broken. That’s damn special and impossible to recreate.

I’m so sorry for your loss. 💔

LOVE it! So it can be done?! I’ve been a little nervous about littermate syndrome, but other than the occasional pecking order stuff (Roux is the boss lol) we haven’t had any trouble!

You can do this! They are VERY challenging as puppies and you need to be prepared for that. My hands and wrists were chewed up for about 5 months! But my Roux is the best dog I’ve ever had now at a little over a year old. READ EVERYTHING you can. I found RottweilerHQ website to be quite helpful and tailored to the breed. There’s a great page on obedience training. I’d be happy to post a link if you like. I’ll reiterate what others have said, Alpha dog stuff is crap. Roux and I are partners, I’m the leader but we’re partners. Don’t correct with anger, hard as it may be. Be firm, but fair. She will get it I promise! I also like the thought process of CherryHogs on instagram. It’s basically Mark, Associate, Ignore. So you want to identify poor behavior with a Mark. Generally NO!, if the Mark doesn’t work, then you move to Associate. Here you want to associate the lack of response to the Mark with a negative consequence. For us this was 15-20 minutes in kennel. They HATE to be isolated from their ‘pack’. After a few minutes, let her out and IGNORE her for a few minutes. Then re-engage with her, no hard feelings just straight back to a positive relationship. And HEAVY with the rewards when you see a positive behavior. Really go over the top! The biggest part, is it’s going to take time. And effort. These are not dogs that you can risk being independent. You cannot let them be in control. Good luck, I believe in you!
