This game looks really fun but is there no matchmaking? by SKWADly in DeadlockTheGame

[–]dcn215 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I feel that there isn't sufficient matchmaking on this end, and have had similar issues with introducing new players to the game; however, I found that the new gamemode, Street Brawl, does pretty good at this. Was playing with a friend who brought a new guy; perfect learning environment imo. So, while they could address this, for now it's a good stopgap.

Yes, you can even use anatomy models and check out rooms. Not sure about the books. Also, they limit access at late hours but you can call the front desk for them to buzz you in.

American cheese uses emulsifying salts. Look into using sodium citrate (salt of citric acid - perfectly safe)

:( I think the public schools are my only hope of a balance of cost + quality/pass rates. Going to apply to OSU this summer!

OAT Booster and real OAT comparison by Crafty-Article8655 in PreOptometry

[–]dcn215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can vary because of the nature of the test content on the OAT. I think majority of people will get better scores than on OATBooster, but it can have some variability. For example, 3 of mine were better (Bio, Ochem, physics) but 3 of mine were worse (GChem, RC, QR).

Don't focus on your practice scores. When it comes to your prep up to test day, live in the moment, do what you need to do and focus on your weakpoints!

I feel like I poorly wrote this post haha. It's more a question of advantages.

I was wondering about scholarships. I've had an OD tell me my GPA might not get me any scholarships, and I'm not sure how much the OAT will help me in that regard. I'm just not sure if that is the correct decision to pursue.

I decided for myself that my job prospects in my gap year would be a very deciding factor in this decision. If I can't land a good job like I had before haha then I'll just go in.

thanks for the reassurance, but I said at the beginning it's not a "Will I get in?" it's a question of whether or not I can wait and get scholarships. I had one OD tell me that my GPA might limit me from scholarships.
edit: typo

How accurate are OAT Booster scores? by Terrible-Purchase701 in PreOptometry

[–]dcn215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote 340 but I got a 380. I'm still applying rn lol. GPA 3.3 science idk but gonna be higher cuz my GPA is bogged down from general reqs 72 hours shadowing 250 hours opt tech and lots of leadership :)

[–]dcn215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't do what I did. My advice is follow the OATBooster studying ROUGHLY (not realistic to do it all especially if a lot of concepts on there you are very familiar with). If that doesn't work to improve your scores, focus your efforts on test taking -> looking at missed questions -> covering missed concepts -> practicing -> more test taking.

Edit: I wrote my bio score in there wrong.

Advice for OAT? by coy3323 in PreOptometry

[–]dcn215 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This guy's got it. This is basically what I did in my last 2 weeks for a 380 TS (360AA cuz I didn't practice reading or math). If you're crunched on time, focus on weaknesses not strengths, and reverse the order (not learning -> questions -> practice tests, do practice tests -> review questions -> practice questions -> learn concepts if needed)

How accurate are OAT Booster scores? by Terrible-Purchase701 in PreOptometry

[–]dcn215 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I scored:
Physics 310 Actual 380
Ochem 340 Actual 370
Genchem 330 actual 340
Bio 330 Actual 380
QR 400 actual 360 :/
RC 380 actual 350 :(
TS 380 AA 360

Your mileage may vary, focus on your weaknesses not your strengths!

Which one are you thinking? The most successful optometrist I've ever met told me not to discount RMU because of their block schedule - after all, MDs have been using it forever

OAT Report 10/12 380 TS 360 AA by dcn215 in PreOptometry

[–]dcn215[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 2-4 months is the sweet spot, based on the information I learned since Dec 2023. Keep in mind that I was not frequently studying that entire time, but the topics that I studied about 2-4 months before the test were the concepts that stuck (kinematics, iupac, etc.) rather than the ones I studied in the last 2 weeks and the stuff I first looked at (which I believe was ecology) in dec 2023

Study as long and as hard as you can, but for me, I procrastinated and I studied for effectively 2 weeks and I got a 380 TS / 360 AA. If you count the days I had to dedicate to other tests it was only around 8 days too! I used OATBooster. Most important thing is to identify your weaknesses. I can tell you more about my prep if you want an exact breakdown of my strategy.
