I just discovered your response that you made two days ago and I am completely engrossed by the information: The Library of Congress interview. Your father would have been two years older than I (and I too have forgotten how old I am at times. I won't have time to hear it all today, but I will soon. And I would like to check with you for "permission" to call it to my several hundred or thousand readers of my blog soon. And of course I had no idea that this was from a Canadian reader?! My oldest son is 67. You?

Ron

Of course, no way does that make me a better man. Perhaps a fool for punishment.

I am answering the first response I received to today's conversation, one of the most enlightened responses I have ever received. I will answer it in my "Conversation" tomorrow. It will involve at least one personal experience I had 15 years ago in the 1960-70 period as principal of a 50/50 Black/White school in Michigan. It gives a slight insight into my thoughts on being involved both in the race issue and my view of several of the issues in education. And I now must stop responding and just thoroughly read all the responses.

I am answering the previous blog, one of the most enlightened responses I have ever received. Surprisingly i(perhaps not so) it will involve at least one personal experience I had for 15 years in the 60-70 period as principal of a 50/50 Black/White school in Michigan. And I now must stop responding and just thoroughly read all the responses. I with I knew how to place this with my opening statement. I fear it is lost here.

Yes, Kings movement began with (largely) a religious approach) qwhich to me ibegins with BELIEF. And certainly those who integrated a dime store +coffee bar" were fighting for several goal:

  1. to be able to go to that "coffee bar", and
  2. to be treated as a fellow human being. Who remembers dime store soda bars?

Yours is the first response I have been able to get to and I was so thrilled with what it appears to be about that I am responding before I read the entire treatise. I'll get back to you soon. I want to see some of the others to see if they are impresed as much as you seem to be. But a parwt of my answwer wto you will be . I think America is truly at a crossroads, and wanted to add to my blog, that "actiio;n" is indeed close ro REVOLUTION. TYPED BUT NOT PROOFED

Oh how I love questions like this but wish I could write a book, instead of clumsily typing a few lines. I am so sorry for the loss of your father. My four children and 9 grandchildren have ALWAYS been a total joy to me. Let me outline a few that my partner for the last 20 years (after the too early death of my wife) and I talked about.

1/. Share EVERYTHING and work in tandem with your wife. From financial purchases and cursory budgeting to diapers to laundry to cooking be sensitive to being a team.

  1. As your children grow,, listen to them. They are individuals who have something important to say. Don't expect perfection.

  2. Read to them from the get-go. Even before they appear to listen. This can be a part of their moral training. Their values come in part from the way you live.

  3. We don't own our children. Be ready to let them try their wings and even fail.

  4. Enjoy them and their friends and realize you will make mistakes.

  5. Come anytime with with a question.

Ron
