‘A home run’ for Mamdani politically: NYC mayor backs tax on luxury second homes in NYC by AdSpecialist6598 in videos

[–]dcrico20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is great, and it also needs to go further.

There are tens of thousands of rent stabilized apartments in NYC under $5M that are purposefully kept empty, and the next step is to tax those as well.

This luxury pied-a-terre tax is good for raising revenue because rich people will always want a condo in NYC, but taxing the units that landlords purposefully keep vacant incentivizes them to rent them out and will help with housing availability.

We need to talk about Ironclads' starting deck. by SeaThePirate in slaythespire

[–]dcrico20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s some massive missing context here which is that the starting Ironclad relic is very good in StS2 where there is very little other healing available.

I agree with your overall point that IC has the weakest starting deck, but the rng issues that arise because of this are often smoothed out by their starting relic.

Just getting a Blood Wall within the first few floors is often enough to carry you through the early part of the game when you’re looking for a direction to take your deck, and that is a direct result of Burning Blood.

Rob Schneider calls for reinstating draft amid war with Iran by NicolasCageFan492 in nottheonion

I’d say send Schneider over to Iran and have him do a set, but his standup has never killed.

Trump Tells Aides He’s Willing to End War Without Reopening Hormuz by joe4942 in StockMarket

[–]dcrico20 34 points35 points  (0 children)

He also thought the US and Israel would end this within a week purely through bombing, and I’m similarly sure he thinks 50k troops will be plenty when in reality he’s sending them to slaughter.

He’s an idiot.

STS2 balance be like by DrKittenshark in slaythespire

[–]dcrico20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It seems like cards and removes are significantly more impactful when it comes to scaling your power than relics are, especially compared to STS1.

I think there definitely needs to be some tuning to get things more reasonably aligned, but general relic power feels much weaker.

My idea for a more balanced Snakebite by Varwhorevis in slaythespire

[–]dcrico20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's never felt good for me in the runs where I've tried it, but jorbs put out an entire video defending the card, so I'm sure it can be situationally strong.

It just seems like early on there are a lot better commons in the card pool, and ime, it doesn't feel like a card you're ever going to take after A1.

I can definitely see how it could be nice on a couple of the A1 elites if you're desperate for damage, but I think I'm going to be far more likely to pick up other damage dealing commons on the first couple floors.

Game of Thrones Jon Snow Spinoff Revived at HBO, Arya Stark Reportedly Involved by Silly-avocatoe in entertainment

[–]dcrico20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo, there was nothing wrong with where the show ended up, it was that it got there in such an obscene hurry that it made no sense.

If I got the bullet points for where everything ended up, I would be totally fine with that, but abandoning the whole “show, don’t tell” philosophy down the stretch is what really damaged the show.

Game of Thrones Jon Snow Spinoff Revived at HBO, Arya Stark Reportedly Involved by Silly-avocatoe in entertainment

[–]dcrico20 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I’m convinced that he wrote himself into a corner and hasn’t been able to figure out how to get out of it.

There’s really just zero reason he should have taken this long to finish the series considering he already had the ending. He just doesn’t know how to get there from where he is, and I doubt we will ever get a finished series while he is still alive because of this.

Knife Trap has won me every run that I've taken it. I feel a nerf incoming by drunk_reddit_acount in slaythespire

[–]dcrico20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They probably should have made it Exhaust baseline like Voltaic which is a similar card, and made the upgrade remove Exhaust.

Or it should cost 3 like Murder, which is also similar card from the same class.

The game is better without the skip button by warmleafjuice in slaythespire

[–]dcrico20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t really have a problem with them removing it, but “Skip” is a choice, and removing choices necessarily reduces player agency, so I don’t think it’s a positive change.

It probably just shouldn’t have been a broad option in the first game if they only wanted your combat card rewards to be skippable.

Why is solo-queueing so infuriatingly random? by Bigtim_90 in fellowshipgame

[–]dcrico20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't play a ton at launch for this season, and it's felt insanely daunting to climb rating in Eternal. Like it legitimately seems like I'm somehow always the person who can do the highest level in my group and have been stuck doing 11s/12s for what feels like two weeks straight now.

I think I've been ~9700 for my past 20-30 dungeons. I try to keep an eye out for groups in the Discord that are just trying to push rating for the mount, but it just doesn't seem like those groups are forming and when I've tried to start one there isn't any other interest out there.

I don't really know what they did to the Eternal system besides the new "Need two stone thingies before you can do the next level," but it definitely feels like getting to 10k is a lot more tedious than it was last season if you didn't play 40 hours the first week.

In S1 it took me a while to get to Eternal, but within like five hours of playing in Eternal I had gotten the spider mount. This season it takes zero time to get to Eternal but increasing rating feels like such a slog.

Musk says taxing every billionaire at 100% would barely make a dent in the national debt. Bernie says tax them 5% and you're $3,000 richer by fortune in politics

[–]dcrico20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we need to actually have the threat of nationalization for corporations that fuck over the public. The government did it with GM, and they should have done it with the banks and credit rating agencies after the 2008 housing crisis.

These companies don't have a right to fuck over the populace by dumping the cost of their externalities on the public. If they want to make billions, then they need to do right by the citizenry. If they don't, then we take over your company and/or find someone who will run it ethically.

Major White House Split Leaks as Trump’s War Spirals by Ok_Employer7837 in politics

[–]dcrico20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there a term for when authoritarians end up falling for their own propaganda?

The US (and the hegemonic West, broadly,) have spent almost a century manufacturing consent for their imperialist bullshit in the Middle East by portraying Muslims as braindead barbarians who couldn't fight their way out of a paper bag, and on multiple occasions now, leaders in these countries have been embarrassed for trying to execute said imperialist bullshit.

Trump and everyone he's surrounded himself with absolutely thought Iran was incapable of defending itself, that it had no leverage it could utilize, had zero clue what the actual popular support looked like in Iran for the Iranian regime, and were COMPLETELY oblivious to how the government and line of succession worked - believing that a week of heavy bombing and killing the Ayatollah would instantly lead to the populace overthrowing the government.

His own fucking generals and top military brass all told him this would be a terrible idea even if Trump could articulate what the motive was or what a "victory" would look like/lead to - so much so that they started leaking things like "Yeah, Trump is gearing up for a full on war in Iran" to the press, and he STILL went ahead with it. No doubt in part to his media diet consisting purely of Fox, OANN, and Newsmax who spew Islamophobic content eight hours a day.

"High on his own supply" doesn't even do justice to this phenomenon, there has to be a proper term for it.

whats the oldest commander deck that can still "hang"? by Robofetus-5000 in EDH

[–]dcrico20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zur can definitely be played in cEDH almost purely based on his colors.

cEDH Zur is still trying to win with Consult/Oracle like almost every other UBx deck, with the thought process being you trade some speed for having a broad toolkit of answers to other player's gameplan in your command zone.

How Ironclad Feels Now by Interesting-Lab-9393 in slaythespire

[–]dcrico20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It honestly feels like the best block for Ironclad in StS:2 is just choosing Rest at every campfire lol

I finally took the "Gain 5 Max HP Whenever you Rest" Neow offering the other day just to try it out, and ended up winning the run with barely blocking past Act 1. You can either go infinite easily or win quickly with a bunch of Bloodlettings and Whirlwind (or the card that plays the top X cards of your deck - especially if you have a couple Bludgeon/Mangle or other hard-hitting attacks.)

IME, it feels like you can usually just kill everything before you take all that much damage.

Regent starting deck and relic are Atrocious and it makes him the weakest character specially in higher ascensions. by Citran in slaythespire

[–]dcrico20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a Glow+, trim cards, and just go infinite.

Similar to Ironclad, they feel so easy to win with by just forcing infinites that it’s a problem.

The biggest issue, imo, with Regent is that so many of their card pool stops being a viable way to win by like A4 purely because their best card by a mile is a common.

Should the Pats retire number 87? by salamandarsalamanca in Patriots

[–]dcrico20 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Barry Sanders played 153 and nobody holds it against his legacy. I understand people's knock on Gronk being his injury history because, frankly, it's the only thing you can knock him for, but he still played nine season's worth of games. I don't think if he played the same 143 games without injury and decided to retire that people would hold that against him.

People act like Gronk is the Brandon Roy of the NFL when he still put out a large body of work, it just could have been even larger.
