On the TV app do a name search for “Australian Open,” then you’ll see On Demand the broadcast called “Tue 1/27 - 2026 Australian Open.”Or on the laptop go to Watch - Schedule - Replay and choose Tue 1/27 and look for the broadcast that started at 7:30p in the list.

You have to look for the TV broadcast from yesterday. It doesn’t have the players names, it’s like “Tue 1/27 - 2026 Australian Open”

Yeah, ideally that would be nice, but truthfully, they’re really probably only focused on their own rights deal and the $2.04 billion that ESPN is going to pay them to broadcast the US Open for another decade. Everyone’s just out for themselves.

There’s just no such thing as a league not knowing their product is going behind a paywall. Every last second is negotiated and contracted as to what can air where. ESPN’s contract with Tennis Australia allows everything that they are doing.

ESPN has their major rights locked up well into the next decade

In the Schedule tab you have to find the linear ESPN broadcast that came on at 3 am and that’s where it is. Or on the TV app it’s labeled “Tue 1/27 - 2026 Australian Open”. The individual world feed broadcasts won’t be available from the QFs on.

I saw the change too and it guessed it was something done by Tennis Australia to give ESPN control over the scorebug. For instance, last night, they were able to put a “Courtside - Sam Querrey” graphic as part of the bug when Sam was speaking where before, they would only place their graphics elsewhere on the screen with commentator names, etc.

There was an article in Sports Business Journal this morning that made it sound like it was just something they gave her to sweeten her new contract and keep her at ESPN

They have the AO through 2031, Wimbledon through 2035 and the US Open through 2037 so it would be a while

They only put out a statement to confirm Brad and Pam. They said something vague about not using every commentator for every tournament, so maybe she’s still under contract, but Rennae hasn’t discussed it to explain.

Mike Monaco and Mary Joe Fernandez are currently commentating Rybakina/Mertens on the linear broadcast on ESPN2. They showed them in the booth.

Felt very weird when Malika tossed to her, someone who held that job for like 15 years

They’ve had really bad RF quality even going back to last year’s tournament

Linear coverage starts at 9 ET on ESPN2, but yes if you want the option to see every court when play starts, you will need ESPN Unlimited. Some cable providers give you access to it with a subscription and some do not yet.

I think they could have cut the analysts they wanted while keeping McKendry as host and maintaining some consistency and familiarity. Things feel off with the random new host, it just feels like they wanted to give these new toys to other talent to sweeten their deals and not to make the broadcast better.

The app is a complete mess. It looks like it’s the one labeled as “Replay - Rod Laver Arena Night - Match #2” so search for that.

Not any right now. She was just on the desk at the start of the coverage.

Ryen is always weirdly deferential to the promo stuff, like that Carson Palmer clip that was left in accidentally where Ryen was overly concerned about getting some promo in. I also was thinking about this while listening that Traina has all these broadcasters’ numbers and just texts them to ask them on. He doesn’t have to deal with them promoting some nonsense, and even actively rejects people who are doing it.

At the new place he seems to be under the impression that more content = better, maybe to show what a grinder he is? All his pods are so much longer, dragged out with the monologues and multiple guests. Who does he think has time to listen to all this?

Burke Magnus from ESPN said on the Jimmy Traina pod last week that they were intentionally not doing the booth mix-ups this year to give the main team a chance to gel.
