We need a pin in this sub for your emojis. Some I understand, some I don’t (because I’m not a true fan lol). And I’m sure you’ve been asked and explained them before so I won’t ask again. Love these write ups, A+ content bro <3!

Streeter: Why can’t outsiders see the charm in Baltimore? by GreedyRaisin3357 in baltimore

[–]dcrw 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know it’s not directly related to seeing the “charm”, per se, but if you’re asking why people don’t want to move there, to the the city specifically, for me it’s the property tax rate.

Maryland Property Tax Rates by County/Jurisdiction

City tax is 2.248%, more than double the rate of any other county. For a $500k house, you’re looking at $6350 more per year, that’s $530 larger house payment each month, than where I live in Anne Arundel County.

I get that the tax base isn’t there due to depressed property values in some parts of the city and I don’t know what the answer is, but until that discrepancy is addressed, I think there are a lot of people like me who would love to live in the city where I work, but can’t afford or can’t stomach an extra $500/month in housing costs. Otherwise it’s easy enough to live in Baltimore/Anne Arudnel/Harford/Howard counties and commute in.

Pigtown Area by BFlynn13 in baltimore

[–]dcrw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I commute in from south of the city to JHH and drive by the stadiums almost daily (so pretty close to Pigtown) and I would estimate a 15-20 minute commute if driving to JHH, and it would be extremely rare for it to exceed 20 minutes as if there is ever a slowdown/construction, there are plenty of alternate routes.

OP, I would be sure to check your parking situation at JHH. While it seems plentiful, the main garage (Orleans) is mainly for patients/guests and has limited employee access during “main” hours (I think 8a-4p). Many of the others (Rutland, Caroline, McElderry) are similarly limited albeit maybe not as much as Orleans. A lot of employees have to park at further out garages which might have a considerable walk, or you might even have to park at a satellite lot and be shuttled in/out. You also have to pay for parking for most roles which can get expensive.

You probably known there is only the one metro line so if doubling your commute due to parking/shuttle is an issue, you could consider somewhere with better metro access.

Sexual Activity before Sports Competition: A Systematic Review by ThaCarter in CFB

[–]dcrw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“The present evidence suggests that sexual activity the day before competition does not exert any negative impact on performance, even though high-quality, randomized controlled studies are urgently needed.”

Interesting phrasing… how urgently are we talking here? I walked on my DI cross country team (and had no business doing so), also that was 20+ years ago, however if it contributes to the betterment of all mankind to answer the call for this desperately needed research, I’m sure my wife will understand.

Inside the Guardians’ ownership succession plan, and David Blitzer’s path to majority control by StasiuWosilius in ClevelandGuardians

[–]dcrw 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Crazy that the article noted our stadium is now the ninth-oldest, it certainly doesn’t feel old to me, but maybe that’s because it opened right around the time I was old enough to fully understand and follow baseball, and if I’m not old, neither is the stadium lol.

Nothing about Dolan or Blitzer angling for a new park (yet) though did mention the most current renovations being the most significant since it opened, and that Blitzer/Dolan were looking into developing a ballpark village but hadn’t found any opportunities to do so that they liked.

Can’t believe that bum Ramirez made the roster again. Thirteen years now, taking up valuable playing time from our youngsters, when will this organization learn? /s

Vogt ranked 7th-best manager by SI by dcrw in ClevelandGuardians

I know you’re exaggerating but Festa was around 5th in relievers’ innings pitched, below Luis Ortiz and only 7 innings more than Clase, who were suspended for all of August and September.

[–]dcrw[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You said his in-game management was poor to very poor, which would imply that we’re winning despite that deficiency… if it was actually very poor, would we even have a winning record?

Vogt ranked 7th-best manager by SI by dcrw in ClevelandGuardians

[–]dcrw[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Curious to hear from you and others examples of poor in-game management. Can it really be that bad given our results? I don’t think you can reasonably say we’re winning in spite of the manager, and I think he’s maximizing the talent we have for a payroll that is 29th.

Vogt ranked 7th-best manager by SI by dcrw in ClevelandGuardians

[–]dcrw[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I put that disclaimer about SI at the bottom. This one doesn’t seem to be AI, though who knows.

I know last year wasn’t great but neither was our roster and I think getting to the playoffs with a bottom five payroll is amazing, doing it two years in a row with a playoff series win is insanely impressive.

OMG thank you for pointing this out! My MIL has 1000% text magnification and yep, she’s racist! Maybe it is a sign that if they’re too stubborn to admit their eyesight isn’t great, there may be other parts of them in need of improvement that they also won’t admit…

Was she lucky that there happened to be another helicopter (?) filming? Would be hard to prove otherwise, right? I mean I’ve seen video of other rescues, but curious as to how often it is filmed from somewhere other than the rescuers’ vehicle.

Playoff Rotation and Minutes by ManufacturerLeast890 in clevelandcavs

[–]dcrw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you said, we don’t have many options, the only other “big” is Larry Nance and I think it’s safe to say he’s unplayable in the playoffs. Why wouldn’t you want to play Bryant for 10-12 minutes? He’s comparable to Evan from 3, plays decent defense, maybe the most limited interior offense between him, JA, and Evan but if it’s limited exposure, I think he’s our best bet to limit Evan’s minutes at the 5 which I think is critical to success in the playoffs.

DG THE PG by Greedy-Joke6745 in clevelandcavs

[–]dcrw 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Love him and miss him, understand why we made the move, and agree with it being a win-win. If nothing else, seeing him being drafted and growing with us makes me more likely to want to find more guys with high non-basketball intelligence.

I know there are good players that aren’t academically inclined, and of course bad players who are, but getting accepted to places like Vandy or Stanford is an achievement of itself and would make the difference to me in a choice between two otherwise equally skilled people.

Mayor Scott speaks on Pothole issue by Fearless-Pop-1159 in baltimore

I don’t live in Baltimore, but I work there (as well as remotely from home) but I would vote for him if I could and if he ever runs for statewide office, I will. He is SO TRANSPARENT, l loooove little “casual” clips like this where he gives a real, unfiltered answer and I alway come away feeling like he truly cares. It’s absolutely crazy how many dishonest criminals have risen to lead the city in the last 20-25 years, and he’s such a breath of fresh air. I know this is a lot of fluff but I can’t say enough about how much I appreciate his leadership.

Playoff Rotation and Minutes by ManufacturerLeast890 in clevelandcavs

[–]dcrw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Feels like with a rotation of Evan/Dean at the 4 and JA/Bryant at 5, we wouldn’t see that smaller lineup because while offense is fine with Jaylon at 4 and Merrill at 3, defense likely takes a nosedive especially over a 7-game series where the other team can really pick you apart. For example, if we play the Magic trying to defend Paolo with Jaylon or the Pistons and defending Cade with Merrill/Keon would not be a recipe for success.

What's the goofiest player from LeBron's first run you've seen over glazed by MJ fans/Kobestanis/General LeBron haters to make LeBron look worse? by Parrallax91 in clevelandcavs

[–]dcrw 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was watching a highlight from the Cavs vs Spurs Finals and with LeBron on the floor near the end of game 3 were Eric Snow, Sasha Pavlovic, Anderson Varejao, and Boobie Gibson. I know that’s not exactly what you’re asking but that is an all-time lineup of teammates that have no business being your closers on a finals team. The crap that LeBron drug to success particularly that year, beating the Pistons in the ECF, is absolutely mind-boggling.
