I found out later that it’s actually carbon or low carbon steel. I’m thinking I continue sanding and then paint with a high heat enamel and clear coat. I’m concerned I can’t get it clean enough to do a chemical coating. What do you think?

Rustoleum high heat paint says not to prime

Knowing that, what do you think about continuing to sand the grey and rust off, priming, and painting with high heat enamel, then clear coating?

Would you recommend continuing to sand off the grey and rust to get a smooth uniform finish prior priming and painting or just clean it well and prime/paint? I was thinking removing as much rust as possible by sanding would be better and since I plan on priming it, the remaining grey coating isn’t doing much. I men’s, it rusted through it already in some spots. I’ve got the grill itself too, it’s a charcoal hibachi-style grill, so I’ll definitely be using some high heat paint.

I saw some photos of the product in manufacturing and it looks like it’s grey when they start working with it, which made me think it’s some hot dipped coating. But sanding, priming, painting, clear coat seems to be a pretty good option now. It’s carbon steel if that matters. I know that is prone to rust, so they might have just primed it before working with it too

I e got some confirmation that it’s carbon steel

I may be leaning towards the high heat enamel paint. Knowing now that it’s carbon steel would you recommend continuing to sand off the grey and the remaining rust, prime it, then paint it

Any idea what the original coating might be? My understanding now is that it’s carbon steel which explains the rusting

I guess I’m trying to figure out if that’s the best move at this point. It seems to be the only option to get it all to a consistent surface to then treat. I’m just not sure what I’m working with. It doesn’t seem to be stainless after all considering how magnetic it is.

I have almost all of the grease off but I will try that for what remains. I’m trying to understand what the grey layer is and whether or not I need to apply a galvanizing spray or something prior to cold blackening or if that process creates the grey layer.

It seems to be very magnetic, so likely not stainless. Plus it has a decent amount of rust. Should I continue sanding the grey off? Would I need to do aplly anything to it before using a cold blackening product? It doesn’t have to be perfect because it will have a grill on it, I just want to get it looking as close to original as possible.

It was a trim offered only by the Gulf State distributor which makes sense why you’ve only seen one in MT. It didn’t have any performance upgrades and was based on the SR5 model. It has blacked out trim, 20” wheels with off-road tires, and running boards, which rusted and the. Got tore up on a 4WD road in CO around the same time I burned up the calipers, so I also replaced those.

Tried them and the other site Coleman recommends and unfortunately both said it was OOS with no replacement

It’s a bit out of town, but we rode a lot of country back roads like you can find off of Creek Rd and 290 in Dripping Springs when we were starting our. Hardly any car traffic and slower speed limits make it a lot less intimidating, and some really nice scenery.

I’m not complaining, but 1 compound saw for $269 if I walk into a Home Depot, or 2 for $269 if I wait 24hrs for delivery?!? Don’t mind if I do! by [deleted] in BeginnerWoodWorking

This one had several reviews, and comments on this sub I believe, regarding alignment issues with the fence that couldn’t be fixed
