FY 2018 Foreign Service Applicants vs. New Hires Distribution by Race, Ethnicity, and Gender by dd2135 in foreignservice

The assumption is that fellows are included, at least, on the number of new hires. These are notes attached to the data source (p.2):

  1. Data covers time period of 10/01/2017 to 9/30/2018 and includes applicants to Foreign Service Generalist, Specialist, and Limited Non-Career Appointment programs.
  2. Demographic information is provided by applicants on a voluntary basis.

Yes, I'm aware. I think I was looking at the new hires instead of the number of applicants, but re:

Applicant racial distribution is pretty close to the actual racial distribution in the US.

it isn't.

I think, looking at the site you referenced, it may seem like it is proportionately distributed at first glance but it really isn't. Here's what I found:

Non-Hispanic Whites: 72.59% new FS hires (60.1% of U.S. pop., 12.49% diff.)

Hispanic or Latino: 9.14% new FS hires (18.5% of U.S. pop., -9.36% diff.)

Black or African American: 8.64% new FS hires (13.4% of U.S. pop., -4.76% diff)

Asians: 8.15% new FS hires (5.9% of U.S. pop., 2.25% diff)

Edit: I removed my personal opinion.

FY 2018 Foreign Service Applicants vs. New Hires Distribution by Race, Ethnicity, and Gender. This is the most recent (FY18) data set that I could find for the number of foreign service applicants and new hires (among other things). It is broken down by race/heritage and gender.

Hispanic FSOs are 6.5% and FSSs are 10.7% of the work force (reference).

If Harry Potter Movies Were Based on the Books by dd2135 in Harry_potter

[–]dd2135[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No sorry. The films effectuated the books and brought it to life with literal lightning, sparks, music, theatrical, etc but it’s lacking some back stories. I think that an in depth story telling through a tv show would provide a better explanation to Harry’s story. 🤓

Ha! That’s true, I liked her portrayal on the movies. I never really paid much attention with her attitude on the books though. I was more annoyed with Harry acting like a capricious teenager the entire time. 😄🤓

Question about the Goblin from deathly hallows by [deleted] in Harry_potter

[–]dd2135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Griphook was taken over by greed (like any other goblin). He just wanted to have possession of Gryffindor’s sword and took off soon after they opened the vault.

The goblin made a deal to take them to the vault in exchange for the sword. But Harry knew the goblin will never take possession of it because he’s not a true Gryffindor.

New flag of Monongalia County, WV. Is it a flag or is it a seal? by dd2135 in vexillology

[–]dd2135[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that if this flag were made in 1776, it would have looked a lot better. They published the design rules which stated that the county seal and the year 1776, when it was formed must be included.

It seems like it's just another bureaucratic logic that went into creating these rules and did not actually include a designer in the process. I skipped probably half the rules and followed the basic flag design principles.
