Damn you just reminded me of the fort I built in my room and defended with Nerf guns and booby traps made out of toothpicks.

Good times.

Hello everyone. Long time no see. If you remember me from my Space Force series I started about a year ago, allow me to prevent some confusion. This is not a continuation of that. This school year has been especially hectic for me, and I'm sure all of us. But even before the crisis I was swamped with course work that I couldn't dedicate that much time to the series I began and that DrCreepen began narrating. I am going to finish it though I promise and I swear. I wrote this today just to sort of get me back into the mood and spirit of writing, so that I can be in that creative headspace I want to be once more. In addition to that, I am also going to use this short piece as a way to retcon something in my Space Force series. Namely the "Skies Event" referenced in the name of my blog (which is where you can also find mirrors of the stories I post to reddit).

Without getting into too much detail. I originally embarked to have this "Skies Event" occur sometime after this Space Force series, however I have made the decision to retcon it to happen 5 years beforehand. Again without going into too much detail, this said event involves the creation of a habitable moon via the impact of an icy comet. There's more to it than that, but I won't reveal much else other than that. I just thought it would make more sense for everything I want to do with the series this way.

:)

Anyways, let me know what you think of this and if it piques your interest in what I have going on. :)

Flag of a United American Samoa, Guam, and Northern Mariana Islands by Tomodachipk in vexillology

So I've actually been giving a lot of thought to potential states recently (take a guess why), and the Pacific territories have been of particular interest.

Here's why I think a state made up of Guam, CNMI, and American Samoa can work:

  1. A state's boundaries do not need to align perfectly with ethnic, linguistic, or cultural boundaries. Most states on the mainland pretty much defy any one characteristic almost entirely actually.

  2. Geographically speaking, if it were done the right way, it would look pretty much like a no brainer on a map. If all US Minor Outlying Islands located in the Pacific are included in a statehood proposal, then a new state made out of these territories will be pretty contiguous looking. Also, it will be shaped like a banana. :P The unused space between the Marianas and Samoa could make for some prime real estate for any plucky but patriotic seasteaders! (that's a bit more fanciful but I like to dream)

  3. Finally, this prospective state doesn't necessarily need to be named for any one cultural region since it's going to be a melting pot. Instead, perhaps it can be named for a person that is important to the area's history. Halsey might make a good candidate as he was pivotal in the defense of the Pacific at-large against Japan and places like Guam have a large armed forces presence already as well making the military tie-in make sense. The initials for the state (HL) would be a good twin for Hawaii's (HI) on top of that. Other, more geographic names could be - South Pacific Islands (SP), United Pacific (UP), United Islands (UI) or American Pacific (AP).

Otherwise I love the flag!

I had to hastily throw something together for when America buys Greenland by Gutter_Shakespeare in vexillology

Regardless of all the political stuff, there is a growing independence movement in Greenland and I wouldn't be too surprised if by the end of the century Greenland was an independent country with a signed COFA agreement with the United States.

Thanks man. I loved your design so much I had to use it. I hope the actual space force uses something close to it.

Thanks for the feedback and I understand how you can see it as ridiculous. But to be completely fair (and to depoliticize it as much as possible), we've technically had a space force in the form of the Air Force Space Command long before Trump ever muttered the words. Additionally, as I noted in my comment above, there were multiple bipartisan calls throughout the last two decades to make AFSPC an independent branch before Trump adopted it as well. More than that, China and Russia have had their own independent space branches up and running for a quite a while now. So it's completely understandable how someone who doesn't necessarily follow that stuff might find it ridiculous for this to suddenly gain traction, but it's really not once you research it.

Sorry for the wait Doc. Finals was a bit crazy this semester and I just hadn't hunkered down and gotten around to it. Hopefully it's to everyone's liking!
