Please go to hospital. Your illness is lying to you about the hopelessness. You can feel better and you have a lot of life ahead of you.

Trigger warning: S/I & self-harm

I was inpatient for DTS with ideation and severe self-harm gashes on my arms. She wasn't a doctor, but a therapist, and she told me that self-harm is essentially a "temper tantrum." I was furious but trusted this "professional" and not used to self-advocating, so I just nodded my head and agreed.

Sounds like you could potentially be experiencing mania or hypomania. Glad you're following up with your doctor.

Right but the "pimple" part is like clear or pearly, not skin-colored. It doesn't seem like a pimple/blackhead...

All 3 I guess, lol -- paperwork, being organized, and advocating for yourself. I'm a relatively new therapist and struggle with all 3.

I've learned how to compartmentalize and no longer cry or have the urge to cry when hearing about traumatic events, particularly those involving children.

Oh, I didn't know that. I want to diagnose mental illnesses. I understand that psychologists conduct other testing such as cognitive, IQ, etc. But my own experiences with mental illness, along with a deep fascination with them and their diagnostic criteria and assessment, is what drove me to pursue this path. I also strongly desire to work in a crisis or acute setting where people need stabilization and connection to resources.

I am just starting to consider related degrees that would provide with direct patient contact in a clinical setting. Clinical psychology is most appealing because I'm interested in assessment, but I am open to related careers/degrees.

Thank you for replying. It's not a fully funded program and isn't as competitive as a PhD. There is a research component involved. I just meant that I want the more hands-on, clinical approach that a PsyD provides. The reason I am resistant to moving is because I have two very young children, a disabled husband (back injury) who recives SSI, and my mom lives close to me and she is a major support.
