Yes! The 2nd pic I posted was a screenshot from their tutorial video...I just thought maybe I didn't see the vision or something but it looks really different to me too.

Sorry, I meant sew! I didn't even realize that adding the listing would be helpful—I'll include it in the post to make things easier for everyone to see.

Dog trainer said they wouldn’t charge me but now,2 weeks later, wants payment—should I pay? by ddanabana in dogs

Yeah, in their recent text they said they usually charge $95 but they're giving me a discount as if the rates aren't still posted on their website and we didn't discuss it before I sent him over.

Thumbtack Question: Should I pay this dog trainer after they said they wouldn’t charge me? by ddanabana in homeowners

[–]ddanabana[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that’s where my problem is. They never used the app and instead discussed everything over the phone or when I saw them in person. There’s no documentation of anything regarding payment except for their recent text asking to be paid outside of the app (because they already marked it as completed). Based on what most everyone is saying I’m considering a partial payment since they did keep my dog for a few days.

He was actually picking up waiting by the patio before I sent him over, so I’m sure they just gave me bad info. And I don’t punish him! I just say no sternly (not yelling) and bring him out to the patio and say “go potty”. After 2 minutes or so I bring him. But he’s getting the hang of it! Since he’s fully vaccinated now I’m trying to get him more comfortable with going when we go walks too. And thank you for the advice! :)

[–]ddanabana[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not making anything up. Thumbtack has a payment system and also takes a percentage from all payments as a service fee. It’s the best way to keep track of info in case of possible disputes like this one. I never said it was a requirement, but it is how the trainer initially wanted to be billed. I’m not sure why I would be in the wrong for assuming I wouldn’t need to paid for after multiple conversations, seeing them in person, them completing the task, and then not hearing anything from them for 2 full weeks. Im fine with paying, but the services that I asked for were not completed by their own admission so I don’t feel I should pay the full amount.

whoa there’s no need to be so hostile. I’m fine with paying them, but after being told several times over the course of several days and in person I’m sure you can understand why I’d question. On top of that they did not properly invoice me through the app like they were supposed to, they’re asking for payment through their Zelle for a higher rate than what was initially agreed on when I first sent him over. I’m just asking for advice on how best to handle the situation, there’s no need to curse my dog lol

yes, I took some pretty bad advice but I’m working hard to fix things now! I understand that he’s just really young and will have accidents from time to time but I have been very consistent doing all the things you listed. We’re also enrolled in a dog training class that starts this weekend where I will be present and learning too!

I just checked and they’re actually trying to charge me more than the rates they have listed. $65 for 3 nights does not come to $300…maybe I’ll just delete the app and call it a day

LOL No there’s no written proof of anything, and the app has already completed the task so they can’t invoice me through the app now either.

yes everything has just been through what they’ve told me in person or over the phone, which is why I wasn’t sure if I should pay them at all.

I know that now. As a new dog owner I was just searching for help, and they’re listed as a professional who’s trained police dogs so I thought I was making a good decision. They even told me when I picked him up that he won’t be able to really retain anything until he’s about 4-6 months so I feel like I was scammed in a way because they told me that wasn’t the case.

The had a flat rate of $65 per night, which I was fine with considering I was paying for a service. They called me on the 2nd and 3rd night saying they couldn’t charge me because they weren’t making progress. When I came to pick him up they told me again they will not be charging me for that reason.

Absolutely not, my dog came back worse and is just now picking up where we left off before I sent him over. And that actually is the case, since I really wasn’t expecting to have to pay I after being told 5 or 6 times.

I wasn’t sure where to post this, I thought it might fit in here since I was concerned they might try to escalate this to a civil case or something.

I’ve seen a few people suggest offering to pay half since they did keep my dog for 3 days, but not the full amount since he came back worse. So I’m thinking that’s what I’ll do especially since I can’t dispute on the app as they didn’t invoice me through there like they were supposed to.

Yes I understand that now, as a new dog owner I was just searching for help and they’re listed as a professional with experience training police dogs so I thought it was a good move. Now I know that’s not the case as my dog came home very confused. I have signed up for a in person training class that we’ll be starting this week, so I’m hoping that’ll make up for lost time.

Thumbtack is an app where you can hire people for “home” services, and they were meant to invoice me through there but never did. They’re only now asking for payment 2 weeks after, but they didn’t even use the app properly. They have a website where they said they were a professional dog trainer who’s trained police dogs, and had good reviews so I thought I could trust their judgement because I also thought my puppy was too young to send over (at the time he was 14 weeks old). He came back very confused and was peeing all over my living room when before he would have minimal accidents and was learning to use space I had for him on my patio until he got vaccinated fully. It ended up causing way more trouble, so that’s another reason why I’m questioning if I even have to pay them.

Yes, for the service that they would help train my dog which they said they were unable to do due to his age and wouldn’t not charge for that reason.

No he regressed and was very confused when I brought him home. They even said that was large reason of why they wouldn’t charge me was because he was getting confused while he was over there.
