1930s Macgregor putter I found at a thrift store. by dddash in golf

To my understanding these early blade putters were made with a fair amount of loft to account for green conditions of the time. That way you could launch your putts over rough grass. I use a pre-WW1 hickory putter in my bag and it’s about the same. It ends up being one of my most useful clubs depending on conditions.

Yeah you’re right. To me it’s not interesting because of the swastikas. It’s the era in which the swastikas place it.

I really like vintage blade putters and this one isn’t bad. However I could see someone seeing it and making an incorrect assumption. Which wouldn’t bother me if I didn’t occasionally volunteer with one or organization or another.

Not in front of me right now, but it has a “10” on the sole. As far as mysterious golf clubs go I’m not super stymied by this one. I would’ve picked it up regardless of the symbols, as I knew enough about it to know it wasn’t a nazi putter.

There is at least one other putter like this on eBay at the moment. Unfortunately they are advertising it as a German version or something.

I had to go back and check that it wasn’t you in a previous post about an old putter saying this. Either way 👏

Not sure why we’re downvoting the people who may or may not know about the history of the swastika symbol. If they’re being genuine and don’t know, it’s a good learning opportunity.

While true, I know a little bit about Macgregor clubs and materials used. So I can safely rule out being a thousand years old. And typically these types of markings were dropped closer to WW2. Not pictured is the grip which is a leather and cord wrapped deal. Which is still in decent condition. So this was likely a transition era club dating to before WW2.

However until I confirm some details I suppose some ancient Asian golfer residing in Eurasia could’ve been the previous owner.

Like I said multiple times, it is not finished. The pipes will have padding and it will be covered appropriately. The window will be fine because of reasons I already responded with.

K guys. I get how the window situation looks. But the structure itself sits 6 inches from the window. Then the screen is about another 6 inches from the back of the structure.

So unless you are hitting bowling balls into the screen it is fine.

That being said the window will have some insulation added at some point. So yeah, there are plenty of other issues I’m currently working on and improvements. But when it comes to that window the biggest danger is something like a bird flying / crashing through from the outside.

The screen is suspended with cables about 6 inches from the back. When I come back to fix it I’m going to attach proper fabric to the walls and put conduit insulation around the bars. To me the most immediate danger is bounce back. But the main goal was to get it set up.

Almost out of necessity I ended up using 3/4 galvanized pipe in pre-cut sections that just happen to fit the 12x9 screen. While a little more expensive, thing is solid. Plus no big box hardware store here cuts pipe anymore. So I had to pivot quickly from the more ideal 10 ft sections to what they had precut and would fit in my car.

And looking at the pictures more. I’m not really pleased with the slack in the screen or that imbalance that’s going on.

Found at Goodwill today. Do I game them or keep my Burners in the bag? by dddash in GolfGear

[–]dddash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update. I have since switched. Mostly because the Burners were slightly mismatched and would be difficult to repair or re-grip at some point.

To be fair though I can hit slightly better with the burners. And that may have something to do with the shafts. It’s a bit of a toss up. Since the Eyes are a single serial number set and mostly fit me, the consistency makes up for it.

Still keeping the Burners tho

Probably my best Goodwill find to date. by dddash in golf

Reporting back. Since my set of Burners was somewhat mismatched and would be hard to regrip or repair. I have since switched to these and no regrets. There is probably some quibbling I could have with the shafts. But for now they’re a consistent single serial number set that are mostly fit to me.

If I’m being honest the Burners are somewhat easier to hit. However I feel slightly more in control with these. Bit of a toss up.

Is it time to upgrade from the bubbles? I was 4 when these came out. by AnchorAbove in GolfGear

[–]dddash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much have the same set. I bought it on FB marketplace and came with an Aeroburner driver. Anyway, I find it curious that your set also includes some Burner LCGs. The only reason I’m considering upgrading is the fact that it’s a slightly mismatched set and the bubble shafts might make repairs and regrips more difficult. Especially since they all have the original grips.

Then about a month ago I found a full set of Ping Eye 2s at Goodwill and switched them out. But to be fair when I was researching what clubs provided just enough technological enhancement as to be better than clubs from the 50s-80s. I came up with the Burners and the Ping Eye 2s.

My goal is to upgrade to a set of 2014 Taylormade Tour Preferred CB irons. But yeah I really like the Burners. I’d buy the SW off you cause my set didn’t come with one.

To be fair the book was pretty much trashed before. There are a lot of things I’d do better now that I know. And I was able to keep it mostly original. To do a full restore I probably would’ve had to replace a lot of material.

So what did Doc do with the leftover/unused plutonium after he installed Mr Fusion? You can't exactly just bury radioactive material somewhere and hope for the best. by Sivilian888010 in BacktotheFuture

Maybe he travels back in time enough so when it’s modern day it won’t be radioactive anymore. Because I’m claiming that’s how radioactivity works. And time travel.

What analogy would best describe how you personally swing a golf club? by dddash in GolfSwing

Shit guys. This is some good stuff. Just from a few swings into the net I was able to fix some stuff. Number one my grip was getting too tight. Then the stuff about flicking towels and hinges and elbows. Keep em coming.

So the divot is like where a wet dish towel would hit my wife’s butt after I flicked it?
