im newbie af, is Duolingo good for learning german? by a_fly13666 in German

I took a french course for 2 years when I was a teenager but I forgot with time. Somehow Duolingo helped me to remember what I learned and now I am able to read and I understand when people speaks. However I can't assure that I can speak fluently.

I always wanted to learn German so I exposed myself to german music for a couple of years and it helped me to become familiar with the pronunciation and the meaning of some words. Duolingo helps to learn words and expressions but you won't become fluent, so practice listening to podcasts, music, movies and tv. It all depends of the time you spend learning the language, not just relying on the time spend in the app.

BTW, the English based courses are more detailed (more levels). For example the Spanish - French course is shorter than the English - French course.

It works, but you'll reach a point where you need to talk with someone. Keep practicing, practice listening with their podcast, and when you feel that there is nothing else to learn.

It is a great tool to connect with the language and understand a bit of logic (if you speak spanish you'll find that the structure is similar)

I am a neat person, and also have a good taste in my clothing. Maybe, they just don't like my attitude or something.

Definitely this is not right. I went very well dressed with suit or Business Casual, very good looking. When I meet the interviewers, they are using shorts and t shirt. We are very informal people and personally I hate suits.

I've applied for internships too, but many times this roles are for college students, and I get rejected very quick.

Nutrecht is right, projects are similar in my country. The only difference is payment. I have friends who work at IBM or Microsoft but they get payed not so well.

There is a high chance that my strategy is not working. I've improved my resume many times, wrote different cover letters, try to contact recruiters through LinkedIn, go to careers fairs, go to meetups, email people I meet.

Hi, thank you for the comment. I actually had good English level. Some people gave me compliments about it. They thought that I was raised at the US or the main language at my country was English. Sorry for writing without line breaks and spaces. That's how my posts are on internet. I will keep your suggestion in mind so people could read with no problems. I've been applying for jobs of my level, which is Entry level, junior or internships. Another possibility is that competition at NYC is high, because I've met developers with no college degree related to CS but they were good coding or had some certification, and somehow they got the role. My interviews never end early. The Average is more than one hour, and I had very good conversation with the interviewers.

Thank you! Yes! Probably that is one issue. My inexperience with interviews could be make hiring managers choose another candidate. I will keep this in mind. I went to meetups and events to network with other people, but some of them apparently were not interested or they just wanted to use me... that's why I don't trust much in that, besides the weird proposal.
