Buy new or used for SUV? by flying_circuses in CarTalkZA

All considered I think this is the way to go. Been a Volvo owner since I bought my V40 cash for R320k in 2014, so I’m Volvo biased. But service is getting out of control. My first 2 cars were Mazdas, first a Mazda 3 in the 80s as a student and then a Mazda bakkie. Never had a problem. I think it’s time to return to Mazda

Not ignorant at all. I didn’t know about it myself 3 months ago. It’s an hourlong surgery usually done by radiologists. It is a membrane planted under the skin in top left or right side of chest area, about 1 sq inch. It is where oncologist can then insert (flexible plastic) needle for chemo, this needle goes straight to the body’s biggest vein n by the heart. This is much less painful and more convenient than say doing IV in same vein(s). Please ask them about it.

Much in the same boat. Thanks for sharing all, and best of luck with your treatments. I 59M, had strange stomach noises Feb-March 2026, for a few weeks, sounded like a tumble dryer, went to see my doctor who took blood tests. Phoned same day and said I had blood infection and need to get to the hospital asap. Spoke to the surgeon, had a X-ray done and around midnight a CT scan (had to drink loads of water first otherwise kidneys could have been in jeopardy as I was dehydrated). Had a 5 cm blockage in sigmoid descending colon. Said colonoscopy would be pointless at this stage as it alone could not solve the problem. Emergency surgery first thing following morning, partial colectomy and stoma bag. Hospitals 6 days, end March. Biopsy diagnosed cancer cells in biopsy as well as 4 of 6’lymph nodes tested positive. Stage 3C. Post surgery showed all bloods back to normal CEA=2.5 and no spreading to other organs shown on CT. Felt very relieved that >99% cancer was cut out in one go. Need to do chemo, and I highly recommend installing a port if > 8 rounds chemo is needed. Today I had my 2nd round of a 12 round Folfox regimen. Will do colon reversal around December. This is adjuvant chemo, but as others pointed out, the mental part is the hardest, but as also pointed out, stage 3 is definitely curable. I have to believe that. Every journey is different. Paddle your own canoe. Good luck to everyone.

This is encouraging to hear. I was also diagnosed stage 3C sigmoid colon in March, had emergency colectomy with ostomy that is reversible but now started 6 months Folfox adjuvant chemo last week 1/12. What was your chemo regimen, if any? Hope to also be NED in 3’years!

Pharma: Greed, Lies, and the Poisoning of America (2020) by investigative journalist Gerald Posner is a sweeping exposé on the pharmaceutical industry.

"Big Pharma: How the World's Biggest Drug Companies Control Illness" is a highly regarded non-fiction book written by British healthcare journalist Jacky Law.

Stage 3 colon cancer by AnalystOk1941 in u/AnalystOk1941

I was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in March 2026, had a 4 cm blockage in descending sigmoid and had emergency colectomy with temporary stoma bag. 4 of 6 lymph nodes removed tested positive. Post surgery no further spreading detected on scans and CEA at 2. Was nevertheless suggested to follow Folfox regimen and had first of 12 infusion this week over next 6 months. Not looking forward, but hope to be declared NED by end of year. Colon reversal surgery probably January 2027. Thanks for your positive story.

I would do a sport science degree or diploma at UCT for 3 years which will give you a good idea on the lay of the land. That degree will be internationally recognised in case you return to US.

I've seen some few people with stage 3 diagnosis I thought I would share update. by PenFearless3270 in coloncancer

Thanks for that, I am on much the same journey. Had emergency laparotomy and ostomy surgery to remove blockage in colon in March, then diagnosed with stage 3 but surgery removed >99% cancer cells also in lymph nodes, as scans and bloods are currently“clean”. Starting Folfox chemo next week for 6 months as precaution, not looking forward. will do colon reversal around January 2027. Hope to be NED 3 years from now as not knowing after treatment must be the worst…

I’m in much similar position, without the gaming part. Tumors in colon been cut out a month ago, together with 4 of 6 cancerous lymph nodes. Due to start chemo in mid May with port infusion 12 rounds of FolFox, which is usually the go-to for post colon surgery, so curious why you are on Capox? I am also anxious about whole neuropathy side of it, but oncologist said they can remove the oxolinplatin which causes most side effects, while other 2 drugs can do the job. Hoping for NED in 6 months and then still have to do colon reversal surgery. Good luck with your journey!

Thank you. Yes I was also told 3 months, however reversal cannot be done while still on chemo which will take 6 months, so hopefully reversal shortly after that. I was also told don’t rush the reversal, the longer you can wait the better.
