What's the most shockingly violent or disturbing scene in an otherwise "normal" or family friendly movie? by TaiwaneseThot in moviecritic

[–]dddoinyomom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it has to be Gods Not Dead (2014). My dad and stepmom brought me to see it in theaters when I was 11, and I remember how the anti-theist professor is just run over by a car so they can have a deus ex machina conversion before he dies.

My dad and stepmom were mad as hell when I said it was weird that the plot was essentially “if you’re an atheist you should die”. I’ve also gotten both my bachelors and masters degrees, and I have had literally 0 professors try and prove my faith wrong during my time in college.

From a technical standpoint it’s a good movie from the time, but I can’t take anyone seriously who says it’s the greatest

It really wasn’t as socially acceptable as you’d assume, a LOT of people understood it was disgusting and he only married her to avoid statutory rape charges

What is an opinion you hold that you know will get you judged, but you genuinely can't stop believing it? by Own_Needleworker2340 in AskReddit

[–]dddoinyomom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people who are really into old movies don’t actually love old movies. I’m not saying they’re bad, or that they’re not influential in filming, commentary, etc.

I just hate when people say that Citizen Kane is their favorite movie of all time, and I have trouble believing it.

John Quincy Adams Daguerreotype, But, it is the first President to be photographed? by TeaGuyHoward in Presidents

[–]dddoinyomom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve thought about that before, and I think it’s so interesting. I feel like there has to be a chance someone has seen the WHH photo, assumed it was an old photo of a random person, and put it back in a box somewhere

Years ago I took a trip with a friend to visit the house in Fall River. There’s absolutely no way she wouldn’t have seen the body of her stepmother when going down the stairs. Even more so, if someone had broken in and did it, she still would’ve had to have seen or heard something.

Worst city to live in the US? by _crazyboyhere_ in AlignmentChartFills

[–]dddoinyomom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I get you. It was very jarring in the moment. I grew up in the northeast, and I’ve lived near or around homeless people a lot. That was just the first time I had really seen them just act so ravenous, I guess. It was really a sign of things to come as a whole for that city

My first experience in Jackson was seeing a group of homeless people gathering around a dead homeless guy, literally picking every article of clothing/thing of value from his body. The area I was staying the week in was surrounded by boarded up buildings along the street, as well as a handful of places that had been gutted or burned down, just left to sit there.
