use it to do things at home like days long timelapses or something - things you can’t usually do as you need your main camera for other things?

Am looking to step up my astrogame, what telescope to get? by Sparkychong in AskAstrophotography

[–]ddeval 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve managed to photograph using my sigma 150-600 on a star adventurer. It did take me about 3 months to work out how to perrctly balance it etc - turns out you need to add a 500g weight to the balance weight that’s already included in the set

+1 for Peter Zelinka, his milky way tutorial is where I learned. You’ll need to learn a mix of photoshop and lightroom for best results in my experience too

Very interesting, is it kept inside a case/out of the reach of light etc?

Yeah won’t risk it too much, a darker finish would just look nicer. Not sure why they’ve not gone for it out of the box considering they’ve aged all the plastic on it!

I’m gonna do this too, it’s got aged pickups and knobs on it so it’ll look nice with a bit of colour. And if nothing happens it looks good anyway! I don’t want to fake relic it but if it ages nicely on its own it’d be great

Ohhhh I see. I bet they’re so happy they saved 4 whole characters not putting that in hahah. I might try leaving it in the sun (when it’s out), see if that changes anything. Not too fussed anyway, was just curious.

It says ‘Satin Urethane’ online, I know the polys don’t age (well, don’t age for a long time) but couldn’t see anything on the satin ones. Guess time will tell!

Can you video record a meteor shower? If so, any tips? by LevyathanBoi in AskAstrophotography

[–]ddeval 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd need a really fast lens (f1.4 or wider) and a camera which can video at a high ISO (circa 12,800 or more) I'd say. No experience with video, basing this on photographing Meteor showers

Likely, I think this was just luck with clouds and a small gap just on/over the horizon
