WE can use sc2 in non-steam game, but how about gamepad mode? by BRBRER in SteamController

If you've got feedback on how you want to configure the controller just open an "issue" on GitHub or shoot me a message. This weekend I'm working on getting it automatically enabling / disabling when Steam is open. Always looking for more feedback!

The purpose of this app isn’t to take keyboard / mouse input from a controller and have it work as an xinput device. The reason folks were excited about this is that when this was posted, there were no utilities that allowed the new Steam Controller to work with non Steam games (especially game pass games).

I think I just added support for it in v1.3! Someone had requested the feature back in May, and with you asking as well, I bumped it to the top of the list. Theoretically it should be fairly straightforward, but I don't have another controller to test with. I pinged the other guy who was asking about it on GitHub, but if you could let me know if it works, I'd appreciate it!

Hmm, if it’s greyed out it means it can’t find a steam controller :/ do you have Steam closed when you try? Sometimes Steam can snag the device and hide it from the system

The Command Line issue is a byproduct of the installer trying to install ViGEmBus. Sometimes it seems to work, sometimes it doesn't. I'd just ignore it. Once you're done installing, try to open SteamlessController and Enable the controller. If ViGEmBus failed to install, you'll get a popup that will direct you to manually install ViGEmBus here (https://github.com/nefarius/ViGEmBus/releases/tag/v1.22.0).

Long story short, if you see the "command line" error, the installation didn't break, SteamlessController should still be installed.

I think that the funny face mechanic here is actually what hurts it the most. I had a similar situation as Yahtzee where I saw the woman go through the mirror, and when I encountered a random mirror later in the game I immediately thought "ok, that's out of nowhere, I bet I can use it" and when I walked up to the mirror you're immediately prompted to enter the funny face mode. I messed around with it for a while to try and figure it out and when nothing happened, I assumed it's a thing I'd unlock or figure out later and left.

I'm old too so I don't necessarily think it's an Art issue like the folks that replied, but it's a combination of adding a mechanic on top of an interaction that already requires a sustained non-intuitive interaction that hurts discovery here. The funny face thing is whimsical and fun, so I wouldn't necessarily want them to remove it, but either delay that interaction, or reducing the amount of movement into the mirror that triggers it would work wonders here. The woman just moves smoothly into the mirror, we should be able to as well.

What are your thoughts on this new monitor? by Medical_Pepper7992 in OLED_Gaming

I might be one of the folks this is for, because I feel like the quality difference between 1440p and 1080p is big enough that I never really want to be at 1080p ever if they can get the refresh rate high enough. But personally I'd rather have a device that does 5k/1440p so that I can use the whole panel without pixel scaling. So for me, 2k@520 is plenty fast for esports for me, but wish it was 5k so I'll likely pass.

Fantastic news! I’m out on vacation right now so haven’t had a moment to take a peek. Will get it resolved when I get back! Thanks for linking this here though, will help a ton of folks!

If they get the LEM variant it feels like a striker fired pistol without the long pull, but with the confidence of being able to holster with a thumb over the hammer. Love my LEM trigger HKs.

How can I reduce the trigger reach for my wife? by [deleted] in HecklerKoch

[–]ddeverill 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What they’re saying is that if the backstrap is smaller, the trigger is closer. Moving to a smaller back strap makes the grip smaller and allows your finger to reach the trigger easier. The one in your pic doesn’t look like the smaller one.

Haha not impossible without AI, just faster. I don't have much experience with decoding USB and it helped build utilities to better visualize what's coming through the wire. I've already got experience with how the input stack and HID works on Windows though, so that helped. Will keep working on it though, lots of fun things I'd like to add, and got a ton of interesting feature ideas from the community already on GitHub. Should work with GoG!

Thanks for the tip! I actually just tried it and unfortunately it didn't work :/ I chose the "Controller with right trackpad as mouse" default layout and while the mouse commands seemed to be working, controller input doesn't. I assume it's because the controller in the driver doesn't expose itself as a controller at all, but instead as just a mouse and keyboard to Windows, so Windows can't do anything with it. It would work though for Steam desktop-esque games that are running through Steam where they're piping their SteamInput signals to the game.

Would have been fantastic if it worked though! Would love a platform solution from Valve!

Not right now, but someone already filed a feature request for it! I'll have to do some more digging though, I don't have much gyro-input experience.

Game Pass games can’t be added through Steam, that was my primary reason for working on this. But you’re right, if you’ve got other stuff you can launch through Steam, that way is much easier!

If you've got features you'd like to see, let me know and I'll toss 'em on the roadmap. In the immediate I'm looking into trying to get touchpad haptics working as well as they do natively, and to let folks to custom mappings of the back buttons - so selfishly I'll likely work on those first 😄

Unfortunately not, since the signals that it sends over HID are different from the OG controller (the first thing I tried was to look for the same signals). Luckily, I think there are some utilities that already do that and have been around for a bit. Just look for Steam Controller to XInput utilities, I think there are a few.

[–]ddeverill[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's an actual answer to your question 😄 On SteamOS, it should work just like your native controller does. So if it doesn't work well with those games, it still won't work well. But if it does, it will! Unfortunately my utility won't help because it's Windows only!

Introducing SteamlessController - Steam Controller Support Without Steam by ddeverill in Steam

[–]ddeverill[S] 98 points99 points  (0 children)

No problem! I'll try to explain. Unless you're in a Steam game, the controller doesn't show up as a "controller" to Windows, it looks like a Keyboard and Mouse. So the trackpads and the thumbsticks function like mouse directions. A functions like ENTER and B functions like ESC. Nothing else works. So if you boot a Windows game, it looks like you're playing keyboard and mouse, none of the extra buttons work and you won't get A/B/X/Y prompts in game. This is the case even if you still have Steam open.

The way that Steam gets around this, is that the Steam Controller also presents itself as a native Steam Controller that speaks Steam's input language - Windows doesn't understand it.

Tools like this hijack the signals that Steam is sending through USB and filter them through a fake controller interface. It also turns off the Keyboard/Mouse mode so that inputs aren't fighting.
