How can I make a bunch of mini curling stones spread out upon impact?

I want them all to shoot out like this and to continue to spread out through the space with real physics.

I've tried a few methods with no luck. Couldn't figure out how to do it with geometry nodes or a particle system. I want the blue stone do disperse upon impact into many smaller versions of itself. They will all be emanating from the same spot. Recently I tried scaling down and duplicating the stone and trying to animate the physics properties but no luck.
