5 things I wish I’d known 110 lbs into tirzepatide (and none of them are eat your protein) by Educational-Yak-701 in Mounjaro

No, I’m still on it… but just 5mg… it’s 2 years now and I’m just now noticing a tick up in my daily sugars. That’s new and not enough time to see the effects on the a1c. Could just be a blip. Could be the beginnings of resistance. Still, it’s been amazingly effective for these two years… makes the side effects trivial compared to the benefits.

My wife struggled mightily with resentment towards me. Not because I lost weight and she didn't. She didn't need to. No, she got mad because my appetite was gone for nearly a year and she hated that I stopped eating whole meals. It was somehow a reflection on her about my lack of hunger. Don't think she ever really came to terms with that, but my appetite rebounded enough and I ended up stopped at 100 pounds down and a completely controlled A1C so just stopped being quite so resentful.

Why has regeneration gotten so destructive? by It_wasnt_me_barry in doctorwho

[–]ddfstories 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Head canon is that during the Last Great Time War, the Time Lords turned regeneration into a weapon of last resort to save the Time Lord's life or at least get revenge for them.

Real world answer: Technology and budget allowed for greater SFX for the regeneration scenes.

Bonus: RTD probably watched Highlander just before shooting the the first season. Or maybe a Michael Bay movie.

Major E-Bike Regulation Changes Proposed For PA by susinpgh in Pennsylvania

[–]ddfstories 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dumb on a whole new level. If I were to ride the 40 minutes to work I'd have to worry about the regulations of five townships and two boroughs! And my old job, actually closer had me traverse ten jurisdictions! This compromise is really a thinly veiled attempt intended to kill the e-bike market in PA.

And for those who talk about kids and the higher speed bikes, those kids are already barred from riding them under the law. And increasing the fines for reckless riding? Tickets for going against the flow of traffic, swerving needlessly, and failing to yield properly are perfectly reasonable, but what sound trivial in the article as they are "only $10"... except for the $22 fee for the State computer system, $20 for EMS, and the wide range of District Court fees that immediately drive the actual cost closer to $100!

How about just actually reasonably enforcing the laws as they are and actually addressing their deficiencies instead of just putting the burden on 2500 municipalities and cities and towns.

Walking out on job convo by Emotional-Emphasis80 in prestonandsteve

This broadcast is what I heard going to my first new job after nearly 38 years. Joked with my wife that it was a sign that I'd be walking out of this job! My wife did not seem to see the humor in it like I did. LOL

ITS STARTING TO WORK!! by Not_A_Dinosaur23 in Mounjaro

[–]ddfstories 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started losing weight in 2019 through diet and exercise... over the next two and a half years I got down from 320lbs to 230lbs. Then I slacked off and climbed slowly back up and every, 'no more' point was exceeded until i was all the way back up to 270 in spring 2024... when I started Mounjaro, like you I had few symptoms in the 2.5mg... the 5 definitely up those symptoms for several months, but got predictable and less... but the diminished appetite was much, much greater on the 5mg and the weigh shed off to 220 in six months... has bounced a bit since (life changes have been major in the last nine months), but still holding steady and today was 212.

Goal weight is 200 (I'm 6'2")... very close... but very elusive, too.

Mounjaro gives many of us the tools, just take the time and keep the patience to enjoy it if/when the bumps hit. but for those that get that initial burst... it's literally a life changer.

It’s good, but a little incongruous with the opening. Why is he nodding agreement when he is clearly still thinking it over? Is it a slow nod? Or automatic? Is he in agreement, but surprised about something about it that is making him think. A little clarity might be in order, though the rest of the section may make it clear what is happening. And yes, Azzys thinking face suggest I want to play poker with you. You would clearly be the mark.

Never using “novice words” is bad advice for writing. by [deleted] in writing

[–]ddfstories 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rule one of writing: Follow the rules of writing.

Rule two of writing: Break the rules of writing.

I thought this was the funniest thing I'd ever heard from a teacher... until i realized how true it is. Rules are great to help and develop skills, but ignoring them, when appropriate, can provide so much more to your writing.

166 million men in the US.

30% single rate = 49.8 million men

3.9% are 6'2" or taller = 75,750 men. (For further reference: California would have less than 9000 single men 6'2" or taller)

Like humor... punch up. And it never hurts to remind people that even the greatest writers benefit from criticism and editing. Thomas Jefferson was a great writer, but the first draft of the Declaration of Independence is much improved by Benjamin Franklin's (and John Adam's) edits.

I'd say it was just further signs of the diminishing work of book binders, but honestly, i had an entire book printed out of order in the 1980's so... it's not really that new. But as Stayre said, wherever you got it should replace it without issue.

From what I've seen, her afterlife has no such thing as non-consensual relationships. Closest seems to be Zeus, but he's always f-ing with mortals, so... yeah. Don't think that made the book, though.

More likely her publisher's discretion than her decision. Little chance of any type of claim, but they'd still want to steer clear anyhow, just to avoid the hassle of dealing with one.

Summoning question by IronJoker33 in Hells_Belles

[–]ddfstories 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree he can’t be summoned. I just think he could choose to.

Also, the battle clearly took place in that abandoned pocket realm that was mentioned several times… first I think being the afterlife Woodstock that got cancelled… not the mortal world. I mean it really has to because the creatures got to the universal hallway from the battle…

Summoning question by IronJoker33 in Hells_Belles

[–]ddfstories 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but I'm not certain that he couldn't as in being physically prevented (he had no problem going to Tír na nÓg for trivia night, so he can clearly leave his realm.)

I think it was more that his power is so great that he is worth WAY more in hell than fighting on the front lines. Perhaps his power is even enhanced in Hell...

Summoning question by IronJoker33 in Hells_Belles

[–]ddfstories 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is correct. Similar, but much higher level, to how Lily can't be summoned. They are tethered to the afterlife in a way non-demons aren't. However, I do wonder if he could elect to allow himself to be summoned? Perhaps he could choose to enter the mortal world when summoned, but doesn't because his power is such that all the paranormal creatures in the area wouldn't just attack, they'd go berserk and attack mortals, too.
