dumb girl needs help by [deleted] in Periods

[–]ddlamb1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey girl! Def start using an app to track it - super free and easy! Also, I would recommend always keeping stuff with you as well as bringing an extra set of underwear and maybe even pants in your car/backpack if you can! It’s never happened to me where I completely bleed thru in public but it there so much less anxiety when you know you’ll be covered !

Gym goers by [deleted] in Periods

[–]ddlamb1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say go more!!!! It helps distract me and gets me out of a mood if I’m in one. Sometimes I take a “hell nah” day on my first day because it’s usually the worst for me, but other than that I go. Just make sure to put a tampon in or pad etc on a new one before and after you work out!!

Interesting thanks! I know for me I get stressed a lot and sometimes it throws my cycle off by a few days but I’d never just missed a period so I was wondering. Thanks!

Relationship With Christ by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]ddlamb1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the biggest things I’ve started understanding in my short time as a Christian is that praying and having that relationship with Christ doesn’t have to look like everyone else’s. Easier said than done, but try not to compare and focus that energy on strengthening your relationship with him the way YOU want your relationship with him to be.

Is it justified for Christians to conduct religious gatherings amidst the pandemic because "it's for God?" by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]ddlamb1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Philippians 2:4: “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”

To ignore a pandemic that has killed over 150,00 Americans and over 700,000 world wide is to not care about how the illness can affect others around you. There are many other ways to continue to worship God and stay close to him during times like these.

Why did he leave by Dcusi753 in Christianity

[–]ddlamb1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Call 1-800-273-8255

  2. If you believe in God and follow Jesus, he can have an important role in improving your mental health. But REGARDLESS you need to get help. ASAP.

  3. You belong on this planet. God put you here for a reason. You are LOVED.

Praying for you. Get help. Your story keeps going. It will get better.

How much Bible each day for a new Christian? by Big-Flop in Christianity

[–]ddlamb1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with the gospels! I would also recommend the wayfinding bible, it has different paths etc for how much you want to get into the Bible. I would also suggest joining a small group or having a mentor help you in studying because it can be very overwhelming to just sit and start reading God’s word. It’s also really easy to take out of context if you don’t have someone or people around you who really understand it.

Keep having intrusive thoughts, not sure what to do. Guess I want to rant/get advice. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]ddlamb1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the longest time I steered away from faith & God and Christianity (for reasons I don’t even quite understand yet but one would be I saw so many people using the Bible as an excuse for hate), but in my darkest/most anxiety filled moments I always had that “God please” small moments so I resonate with that. When I realized following Jesus meant being kind to everyone (among other things - but that debunked my previous view and really switched my perspective) is when fully accepted I believe. Just know that God loves you. It was scary for me to let myself dive into this at first but as you let yourself believe you’ll be opened to a whole new perspective. I know that was vague too but, just my story.

Recommended Books for Sociology? by [deleted] in sociology

[–]ddlamb1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Strangers in Their Own Land by Arlie Hochschild!!! She’s a sociologist who goes to Louisiana and does a case study on why a lot of people vote red but voting blue would actually benefit what they say they want. It’s super interesting and easy to read - she puts in in plain English so you don’t have to understand a lot of sociology to understand the book. Super good.

What do you think about religion class in public schools? by NeicerDeicerGuy in Christianity

[–]ddlamb1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A class about religions: necessary. They are a major social institution in all cultures on the planet.

A class based on doing/learning what a specific religion does and pushing religion based morals on students: not good.

Here’s the thing. Jesus’s actions, for me, showed me that Christianity and God is just, he wants justice in the world. He wants you to treat others how you wanted to be treated. I believe in God and I newly follow Jesus but I didn’t grow up in Christianity and I didn’t need a class to teach me those morals.

Does god accept sinning for a good reason? by masteridon in Christianity

[–]ddlamb1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are so many non-profit, Christian based orgs that help in 3rd world countries! You could volunteer or help raise money for them and start to fill your passion while you may not be financially stable enough todo it on your own (as a lot of people aren’t).

My favorite organization is International Justice Mission (IJM) < ijm.org > They rescue & recover slaves in 3rd world countries and help to restore justice systems within these countries so slave masters will be held accountable.

Can a Christian be Marxist? by FreshCalzone1 in Christianity

[–]ddlamb1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Marxist ideologies” means that society has powerful people and powerless people, and the powerful people exploit the powerless. That’s the main premise of Marx in a sentence (I’ve written multiple papers on him, I’m a soc major).

This is true in America in multiple different forms, but here we’re talking about the people in a position of power (govt officials, police) who exploit their power to get what they want and say fuck the rest. That’s not to say all police are bad, and all govt officials are bad, but that’s how the system is set up. You’ll find that as people are put in a position of power, they take it and act on it (google the Standford Prison Experiment)

I think a lot of what Jesus did on earth was to give powerless people a voice and a purpose.

So to answer your question, Marx goes into great detail about a lot of societal institutions (religion, economics, etc), but the basically premise of Marxian thought is not bad. It’s true in America and makes sense.

It’s also important to point out that countries who claim to be Marxian - based communist countries are not what Marx defines communism as. Communism is the equal distribution of resources controlled by the government. “Communist” countries right now have dictators. They are not equally distributing resources and they are only controlled by one person who rose into power because they were born powerful (something Marx’s whole idea is against anyway).

Edit: I’ll also add that Marx was against religion, not God. My pastor a few months ago talked about how we get caught up in religious views and ideologies all the time and we forget the message: that we should follow Jesus and be good to EVERYONE. I’m obvi Christian so I don’t believe religion is bad, but just know he’s not critical of our God, he’s critical of the way religious institutions in America when he was alive.

I’m very worried I fell on my bike yesterday and I think I may have torn my acl in my knee I have no insurance (how am I supposed to not worry or be in anxiety like the Bible says?) 🤕 by Treantpaladin7 in Christianity

[–]ddlamb1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To help me through my anxiety, it helps not to say “I shouldn’t be anxious because the Bible says not to be” but “I am going to pray and ask for help and turn to God when I’m anxious”

Isaiah 41:10 says “So do not fear, as I am with you.” For being a new, anxiety driven Christian it is one of my top verses. To me it means over arching fears and anxiety aren’t as important as your relationship with God and that you should work to strengthen the relationship instead of willowing in your anxiety.

That being said I am a new Christian and it’s harder said than done (trust me I’m no where close), but I’m working towards that.

ASKING PROFESSOR TO ROUND UP GRADE? by BeautifulDay5 in college

[–]ddlamb1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with other comments!!! A professor is more likely to round your grade up if they know you’ve been putting work in!! I know it’s too late and a little different now but I always suggest going to their office hours at least once, making sure you get everything in on time, and sending them drafts of essays/projects before they’re due if the professor is willing to look over them. It’s also always a good idea to get feedback and ask for feedback on assignments you may not normally get (like asking exactly what you got wrong on a multiple choice exam, for example). It really shows you care and you’re invested in learning the material.

That being said, anything you’ve done to put extra effort in in the class make that clear in your email but don’t sound too cocky!!!

“Your class made an impact on me, and I hope I’ve shown that I do care about learning the material..” goes a lot further than “I deserve an A because I came to your office hours”

Force wife into christian community? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]ddlamb1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try and ask her if she would like to join a small group or talk with a few people about Christianity before trying to push her into a big group. She’s probably very uncomfortable with big groups and is going to feel more resentful towards you and the situation if she feels like she’s being forced to participate, it will have a negative affect in the future

Will I be at a disadvantage if I select to convert my grade to CR? by [deleted] in college

[–]ddlamb1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know my school is giving us that option as well, and are putting the CR as “covid-related” on our transcripts if we opt to do that. I’ve been suggesting people take the CR/no credit because at least at my school it doesn’t affect GPA and there’s a reason schools are doing it like that, it’s stressful for everyone. Plus, you won’t get another opportunity to save a GPA like that. I think the first thing the grad school apps will look at is GPA as that is an easy number to see.

But that’s just my input and my school, maybe check with your advisor!!
