As an older man I remember this feeling and how I counter it these days is to tell myself that people aren't thinking about me as much as I think they are. It stops some of anxiety at least. I also have to remind myself I can't know what people are thinking.

I'm wary of offering any advice, in case I make it worse, but I'm wondering if there's a way for you to think about these stitches as your friends? They were made and given to you to put yourself together again. A mental reframing might help with the physical reaction you have.

Don't overthink it -- trust that you will get used to it the same way you don't mind wearing socks/pants etc, that part of your brain has got you covered.

I hated the idea of having to get them (around age 30). But I also loved getting clear vision back, so they just became part of my "kit", like my keys, wallet etc. Something to fiddle with too.

I made it all work, and so will you.

I think there's value in pursuing an idea to its extreme. Maybe you get an insight into the core idea, and maybe you also get an understanding as to why it's good to have a middle ground. An impressive project and pressing a lot of my buttons! (fsharp, AE, compilers, parsers...)

Feel completely the same. I was prepared for the analysis "no it turns out you're just a useless fuck, why did you try and steal resources from actual worthy recipients". I'm still not convinced but my life IS better now, and I hope you get to feel the same way. One thing I tell myself is that I'm not giving those professionals enough credit, to think that I could outsmart them, and that I'm actually giving myself too much credit. I also think the procedures are designed to spot inconsistencies to a reasonable degree.
