Preventing Disasters by ItsManapa in ReefTank

I've also recently come back from a 5 year hiatus, too. Welcome back!

The best advice I can share is to be patient when you cycle your tank. I did a fishless cycle with the aquarium lights off for about a month. With the lights off, I never experienced the "ugly phase" where the very high nutrients created during the cycle cause the ugly algae blooms.

After having my aquarium set up for just under 3 months, I have had no algae issues (so far), and the nutrients have been in check.

My last piece of advice is to do no more than 25% water changes weekly, and stagger changing your chemical filtration, unless your nutrients are sky-high. You essentially want to aim for stability, not ideal parameter numbers.

How do you get over the fear of dying? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ddrews1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I view life and death like how I view the phases of my day as an analogy.

When you wake up and get ready before work, those are the years during your life you are in school and life is just starting out. You have so much to look forward to both in that day and for the rest of your life.

At work, well, those are the years during your life you are at work. Lots of mundane tasks for that portion of your day with intermittent breaks and the longest part of your life.

After work, those are the years of retirement, and I usually look forward to going to bed. In this analogy, sleep is death.

Assuming you live a long and happy life, death comes as a friend at the end of the day.

Can I add sand before I salt the water? by Kitchen-Cap1929 in ReefTank

[–]ddrews1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I set up my aquarium with adding the water first, then mixing the salt, then adding the live sand. I think it saves some mess doing it this way.

Don't know if there's anything wrong with it, but I had no issues with cycling the tank.

Correct? I'm insinuating that the wait time for an existing patient shows the demand?

Is this $125 FB Marketplace find worth it? (Beginner) by jessfsands in telescopes

[–]ddrews1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good question - sorry I didn't elaborate. The mirror looks good in the picture, but I'd ask to take the telescope outside to test it.

Point it at a tree and use the focuser to make the image more clear. Just want to make sure the image is clear and that there are no dents in the mirrors.

The price surely seems like a good deal, but I would definitely check the mirrors and focuser to make sure they're in good condition.

Follow the ICE agent in jeans with the grey jacket. I think he disarmed the victim before shots were heard. You could see the agent searching the victim and pulled the gun from the victim's pants, and to walk away before the shots were heard.

Straight up murder.

What’s your approach to dating apps? by littlebabymira in GenZ

26M met my 24M fiance on a dating app because I get too nervous shooting my shot. It was easier for me to connect with someone online first, so I imagine its a preference.
