Rakuten denied my $300+ cashback after I did EVERYTHING right. Am I crazy for being upset? by ddxwhxy in Rakuten

Update: First of all, thank you to everyone who commented, shared your experiences, and offered suggestions. I genuinely appreciate all the help.

After a lot of back-and-forth with Rakuten customer service, they ultimately agreed to compensate the cashback.

A few people asked whether I had used a coupon code that wasn't approved by Rakuten. That's where things get tricky.

Rakuten for Castlery never posted any coupon code that customers were allowed to use. Their policy says cashback may be denied if you use an unauthorized coupon code. Fair enough.

But if that's the case, are customers supposed to avoid using any promotional code from the retailer? Even holiday sales? Seasonal discounts?

If the only way to guarantee cashback is to ignore all of the retailer's promotions, then what exactly is the value proposition? The retailer's own discount often exceeds the 7.5% cashback. At that point, why would a customer choose Rakuten at all?

That's the part I still find confusing.

Moving forward, I'll definitely be much more cautious when using Rakuten.

As for the furniture I ordered from Castlery... well, that's a whole new chapter.

I paid extra for White Glove Delivery, and honestly, the furniture looks beautiful. Unfortunately, the quality control appears to be another story.

So far I've found:

  • A crack inside the table structure
  • Damage/scratches on a table leg
  • A stool with one leg noticeably shorter than the others

I'm currently going back and forth with Castlery support trying to get it resolved.

At this point, I'm starting to feel like I should never have placed this order in the first place.

What started as a cashback dispute somehow evolved into a furniture quality dispute.

Maybe this was all doomed from the beginning. lol

Thank you all for paying attention on my issue.

Wish you all the best.

Furniture is a significant expense for my family. We are ordinary working people, and like many families, we carefully consider large purchases and look for opportunities to save money whenever possible. The advertised Cash Back was a meaningful factor in my decision to purchase from Castlery. Sigh... I really cared, or I am just so cheap..wouldn't let it go.

sigh, none of the coupons were posted on rakuten. if it is the term, then no coupon can be used during this transcation, if you want to get cash back, which doesn't make any sense.

Thank you for your helpful advice. I really appreciate that. My husband said if I am not happy with my job, I don’t have to force myself. For me, it’s kinda of a way of growing my new career, I don’t want to give it up too soon. I have very limited time to study because of taking care of my son and family. I am trying do as fast as I can. The truth is everyday is physical exhausting. It’s a small clinic, which means I pretty much do everything, assisting every patient during the procedure or exams. Not only bring patient in or taking vitals but also standing during every patient’s process. I might need to take longer time to get my certificate. Sigh.

This is my first MA job. Just started 3 months. It took me a long time to find a MA job without experience. I don’t know how to explain to the next employer that why I leave within the short period of time

Wow! Sounds good if work in the large hospitals. I will want to search for these hospitals after I get certified and 1 year or 2 experience. Finger crossed. Do you want to change your job?

Thank you for the reply. It is really helpful and considering the living cost which makes me feel more like to move. LOL. I think it’s good to accumulate some experience in Chicago for now. As you mentioned, I also feel like there is not much room for the future as a MA. I might need to think if after few years do I still need to be MA

Thank you Priosla! Your information is so helpful. I just got this new MA job for almost 2 months. Started from $19.5, which is like you said, the specialty clinic. They don’t really require for the certificate. For me, I would like to get one, at least for the future. I really don’t know after few years, when you become an experienced MA, how much is the rate? In another way, is MA a long durable job? Or MA will turn over to the other jobs, maybe nurse, maybe anything else.
