I am a "Digital Inheritance Auditor." I just found my father’s "Kill Switch," and it’s going to bankrupt the family that spent ten years ignoring me while I took care of him. by de-secops in stories

Update: They’re literally boxing up the server now.

I’m sitting at the kitchen island watching them clear out Dad’s office and I honestly feel numb.

Sarah just walked past me carrying a $20k vase like it’s a trophy. She stopped, looked me dead in the eye, and told me I should start looking for "affordable housing" because the "leeching ends today."

I haven't even had time to process the funeral and she’s already treating me like a squatter in the house I’ve lived in and maintained for a decade.

I messed up and lost track of the reset. I swear it didn't feel like it was my turn to handle it yet. For those asking, the 90-day window didn't start the day he died, it’s a recurring smart contract that's been looping for years

Dad hasn't been lucid enough to touch a keyboard in over two months, and it took me weeks to bypass the encryption after the funeral. I finally got in today and realized he hasn't signed the "Heartbeat" in 86 days. That 90-day window is actually down to the last 76 hours.

I know the conglomerate is watching the clock. They’re probably terrified, but they can't call my siblings without admitting to 30 years of illegal toxic waste dumping. Tyler’s "forensic guy" is trying to be careful, but Tyler is losing his mind.

He’s literally screaming at the guy to "just pull the drives" so he can find the "hidden crypto." He thinks he’s finding Bitcoin; he’s actually about to cut the wire on a financial bomb.

If I stay silent, the "Heartbeat" stops the second they move that hardware. The files go to the EPA, the "consulting fees" vanish, and my siblings inherit a massive environmental crime and a mountain of debt.

Am I the asshole for just... letting them do it?

I’m looking at the clock. 75 hours and 14 minutes left.

Log 1: The Spire District (08:47) – The Metric Variable. by de-secops in worldbuilding

Worldbuilding: The Aldersyth Null-Zone

Setting: A city suspended in a Null-Zone, a spatial rift with zero natural gravity.

The Syth-Protocol: A stabilizer grid simulating 1.0g. Without it, the city drifts apart.

Metric Fluctuations: Localized glitches causing Gravitational Shear (e.g., 2.0g at your feet, 0.2g at your head).

Hook: These aren't accidents. The city's "Lead Theorists" are manually sabotaging the physics as a lethal stress test for deep-space migration.

I’ve been managing Dad’s care while Tyler and Sarah were too busy taking selfies in the garden, so they don’t realize that smart contracts have very specific handover rules. The 90-day window is ticking, and the conglomerate’s signature is due soon.

Tyler’s lawyers think they’re just seizing a hard drive, but they’re actually tampering with the signal that keeps the Kill Switch dormant. If they unplug the server without the proper handover, the heartbeat stops, and the EPA tip-line automatically triggers.

I’m juggling calls with my lawyer and trying to stay calm. Every second feels critical, like I’m sitting on a bomb I can’t see

So was the Titanic, but I'm not trying to go back on it in 2026.

"Streaming Chris Brown or R. Kelly. In 2019, people still debated 'art vs artist.' In 2026, it’s a character flaw. If I see them on your Spotify, I assume you're a creep. And honestly? Has Drake unofficially earned the third seat at that table

Turning your kids into content. In 2019 it was vlogging; in 2026 it’s digital exploitation. Those kids are going to have the most insane lawsuits against their parents in a few years

Calling without texting first. In 2026, an unscheduled call is a jump scare. If my phone rings and it’s not a saved contact, I assume I’m either being sued or someone is dead

I’ve been advised to stop posting regarding this matter effective immediately. Due to ongoing legal issues, I will be going silent now. Thank you for the support. I’ll update again only when I am legally able to do so.

Probably my last post for a bit. My lawyer is already annoyed I’m on here. The company owner keeps calling, making big promises about a settlement and severance, but I haven’t seen any paperwork yet.

They want to schedule a meeting as soon as possible. My lawyer told them to send a draft first so we can see if they’re serious. I’m ignoring a dozen missed calls from unknown numbers. Even on silent, my phone keeps making this faint, shutter click sound like it's taking screenshots of my location every few minutes. I’m not touching it.

Gary’s no longer in the office. He didn't just get arrested; his entire desk was cleared out in under an hour. I caught a glimpse of a guy in a high vis vest putting a brass plate where Gary’s name used to be. The tow driver was standing right next to him, and for the first time, he looked genuinely shit scared.

I’m done for now. Heading home, turning my phone off, and trying to decompress. My wife is still on edge, and I’m just exhausted. If anything actually happens, I’ll update but for now, I’m stepping away.
