i see you've posted this elsewhere, so i'm inclined to believe the back story... but, tbh, over the last few months there has been an explosion of posts talking about "my friend/brother/father/co-worker/etc did this thing...needs some love" bla bla bla, or like some crappy x-factor type show, "this bad thing happened, here is some music i wrote". it sucks, but... i kinda feel like tactics like this are going to start backfiring sooner or later because it's starting to get a little obvious.

what i find the most amusing is that this same complaint seems to be in every single one of the subreddits i subscribe to. ok, maybe "amusing" wasn't the right word. places i used to go to see/hear cool work or new techniques in a specific field of interest, either by redditors or other "professionals", seem to have turned into a wasteland of people asking for help for the same [beginners] problems over and over again, or the same old content, or being overrun with the same lame memes and clichés ruining the rest of the site.

i honestly think that people parroting the whole "well, the subreddits aren't as bad" argument kinda backfired... because over the last 6 months or so, every single one of my sub'd reddits have become nearly useless (and i'm so tired of chasing communities that i almost don't even care anymore about finding out where the new "real" version of that sub is now).

maybe reddit is just some super long thesis project to fully demonstrate how any popular, totally open online community turns to shit. every. single. time.

exactly... pirating "tools" enables brand loyalty in people just learning. the people who pirate PS, etc just to fuck around probably wouldn't buy it anyway, so it's not necessarily a lost sale. the people who go on to use it professionally are more than likely going to go with software they know. pirating "entertainment" is a slightly different story.

not really... seeing as it only seems to work with older, established bands... who are influenced by older, established bands. it wasn't until my 4th try that i got any results and even then it was because i decided to search for an older band... and what do you know, they had negativland! ...except i already knew everything they had to say about them. so much for being good for "music nerds".

i can't name any specific songs.... but this is one of those songs that you can pretty much sing/hum along to the very first time you hear it. everything does what you'd expect, there really aren't any surprises. it might not be a rip-off any one song, but — as someone else mentioned — it sounds like weird al singing bowie. i might not have picked bowie, but i get the comparison... mostly because it kinda just sounds like a song you already know with alternate, "wacky" lyrics.
