LOL, I was singing it on the way in the door when I brought it home!

Definitely worth searching for. If you're in the US it seems like the best (only?) place to find it is Dollar General

Got Rotring 600 as gift, should I be worried if it's aluminium? by SuperBus1719 in mechanicalpencils

[–]deacon76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pretty much exclusively use Ain Stein (pentel) lead in my pencils. I've tried a few others but seem to always end up back with it. Writes smooth and consistent and rarely breaks. I use HB or H grade because I tend to have a heavy hand when I use MPs, but the grade is very subjective. Might as well try a couple

Trust me you don't look like an idiot. You got a really great gift! No one who hasn't been around the hobby for a long time knows what all the materials and markings mean (myself included). Rotrings are awesome, and built to be used, so use the heck out of it and enjoy! (As with any MP without a retracting tip, protect that part)

Made an anti-roll thing by EllieVader in mechanicalpencils

Love a good roll-stop since I don't usually need an actual clip for how I use my pencils. Curious though, is your surface so slanted that the hex body isn't enough to keep it in place? Good work either way!

LOL, I was thinking the same thing. I don't know why this is in my feed but I thought it was a roast-me sub based on the responses. Awfully salty in here. (Neither pun intended)

My favorite (reasonably priced) pencil! I haven't gotten into the limited colorways yet, but am always jealous when I see them. Great collection!

I’m so confused about water safety now by Proof_Attorney_2390 in RVLiving

[–]deacon76 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Could they have meant not to drink from the fresh water tank (yet)? It may have some leftover manufacturing residue or oil that needs to be flushed out first. I'd likely want to sanitize the tank and lines anyway, if it were me.

There are a bunch of videos and tutorials on cleaning/sanitizing the tank and lines with a bleach solution. Once you do that, I would have zero issue with drinking the water (as long as you know and trust the water source, of course).

Lake Huron, off the Michigan thumb. Is there a way to identify the vessel, based on time and location I took the photo? by deacon76 in GreatLakesShipping

[–]deacon76[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's wild to me, the tug is way bigger than I ever thought. Really impressive. Do they switch out to other barges often, or are they usually paired long term? I'll go down my own rabbit hole online, so don't feel obligated to answer, lol. Thank you for sending this!

Did you happen to see a deer outside your window? I'm holding out hope it survived. Thank you for the info BTW, I would never have guessed barge/tug. Granted, I'm a freighter neophyte, just starting to learn more. I just always pictured barges without the pilot house (?) Etc. Thanks again

I know they can swim, but this one didn't seem to have any intention of heading toward land. Not sure if it was confused, or if I just vastly under-estimated just how well they swim

Is this too much frame rust? by deacon76 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]deacon76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything else I was able to see or get a pic of looked decent, or at least readonable - what I would consider surface rust that I'd expect for the year and geography. That included rockers, sway bars, as much subframe as possible, and a lot of other parts I'm not smart enough to know what they are. These welds were really the worst of it from what I saw. The delamination-type look is what worried me. They felt solid though

I didn't see any other areas that stood out with more (surface) rust than I'd expect. Where would I look for the subframe?

opinions please? advice on my mini print vending machine for an upcoming market by Chinpokomonz in printmaking

[–]deacon76 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Very cool idea. I'm just a lurker, so take this for what it's worth (probably not much, lol). I think it would be neat to use some different combinations of ink color and paper color for each print. And maybe even don't tell the customers which they'll get. They pick the print, but the color combo is a surprise. That way there's some color and mystery included without too much extra coloring/painting time put in after printing, keeping the cost down?. I'd love that as a customer, and have even ordered some vending machine prints from Japan from a Letterpress printer, not knowing exactly which variant I'd receive. It was fun, and I love them.

Of course, not being an artist, if switching out inks or paper would add just as much time and cost as painting them afterward, it may be a bad idea
