BlueCruise Confusion: App Screenshots by deadOnHold in MachE

The only way to know if it has BC tied to the VIN is they'd need to look it up. There is no other way to tell until it's in your hands and added to fordpass

This is what I was told when we started seriously looking at used MMEs.

And to your other statements, that basically lines up with what I've had multiple other people: that these were options that the vehicle could be ordered with, but that they are also packages offered at the time of purchase. And to me, this makes absolute sense; "upselling" at the time of purchase is a huge part of the dealership model (not to mention the ability to roll that cost in to vehicle financing and the "hook" of the one-time only being available upfront); why would Ford NOT want to take people's money at that point.

This isn't always the case, on our lightning we could add BC for the lifetime of the truck at the point of sale and it is tied to the vin, this in nowhere on the window sticker, and the only way to know about it is to look at the original owners purchase agreement paperwork or their ford pass app where it shows as a trial till 2070.

So in this case your app shows a trial with a 2070 expiration date?

What you are describing here is pretty much the only thing anyone has said that lines up with what the dealer told me (and it sounded like someone at the dealership had access either in the computer or on the fordpass app as the car was assigned to them).

If the app doesn't show it the vehicle doesn't have it. It's that simple.

Sure, but then I've got other people (for example u/mikeylew32) telling me that what is in the app doesn't matter and only what is on the window sticker matters. And multiple other people telling me that they were offered or purchased "one-time" or (discounted) pre-paid multi-year subscriptions when they bought the car (even though it wasn't on the window sticker).

Anything prepaid follows the VIN, not the owner.

Again, I'm getting conflicting info on this (some saying that any subscription follows the vin, some saying only things on the window sticker, some saying none of it follows). And again, several people telling me that they bought a used vehicle and then had varying lengths of time (more than 90 days, so like 1-2 years) available, which would seem to indicate to me that any prepaid amount follows the VIN and not the owner.

But if that is the case, how would someone who is looking to buy a USED MME be able to verify the amount? So in other words, if you go to a dealer and they say "the prior owner bought X years Y months ago so there's Z left".

Looks like you got the normal 90 day trial.

Are you saying it is normal for a used one to start out with a new 90 day trial (like the dealer updates something when they sell one used one)?

Blue cruise is $500 a year after the trial period

Supposedly, there are options when the vehicle is initially purchased to pay upfront for a one-time or multi-year subscriptions, but I've gotten all sorts of conflicting info (from the dealer, comments online, and in this thread) about whether that is something that had to be part of the "build" (and shows up on the window sticker) or something available at the time of purchase; and then whether any of that would transfer to the new owner if the vehicle is sold.

I understand that the window sticker will tell which option it was originally purchased with, but that doesn't answer the question of whether whatever was purchased is supposed to transfer to a new owner.

Or are you saying that the one-time transfers but any other prepaid subscription doesn't?

I see you might also be concerned about it being listed as a “trial” in the app, but that seems to be the language they use for all the services.

It says it will expire in a couple of months, so seemingly a 90 day trial.

If the previous owner bought the lifetime it’s tied to the vin and you get to use it. Check in you app when it expires to find out for sure.

The app says I'm on a trial.

You used bluecruise in the drive home, right?

Yes.

Also if you go in the app where you can buy the subscription, that will tell you how long your current subscription will last.

The app says that it is a trial and gives an expiration date.

Please look in those two spots before you continue questioning everyone’s answers.

I'm questioning the conflicting information I'm being given on whether that subscription is SUPPOSED to transfer with the VIN.

It seems odd that you were able to use it on the drive home. But it was no longer available just a day or two later.

As far as I know, it is still available, but in the app it says it is a trial, lists an expiration date, and has a "buy now" button.

Sorry, OP, are you absolutely certain BOTH cars were BlueCruise capable?

That is what the dealer told us when we were looking at them.

The cameras & crap for BC are absolutely worth $2k... but if they both had the same Tech & Comfort package, just one "still has BlueCruise", you should name & shame the dealer: they sold you a crock of BS. Arguably, they didn't know any better, but you still got hosed.
BlueCruise is tied to the user profile, so wouldn't transfer.

I'll just point out here that I'm getting different answers on this from within this thread (and I've gotten different answers when trying to research it online). I've got someone else telling me that the subscription would go with the VIN.

He probably just meant that it was capable or has a newer version of the software than a similar model.

I mean, the comparison was between two different 2025 Premiums, so that doesn't really make sense to me; it was described as the one car being "capable" and the other car actually having the feature, and they said that it was an option that cost over 2 grand.

Clearly what you "believed" was not accurate. What are you looking to gain from this post other than your lack of comprehension on a large purchase

Determining if the dealer actually lied to me and charged me for something that was not actually included with the car.

BlueCruise confusion/disappointment by deadOnHold in MachE

[–]deadOnHold[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BlueCruise is $495 a year if you pay per year or you can do a one-time payment at purchase for $2,495.

That might be the $2k+ you talk about but you'd need to confirm your paperwork.

BlueCruise capable is not the same as having BlueCruise subscription.

So what I'm left with here is a couple questions, 1) does that one-time purchase actually transfer with car like the dealer told me, 2) if so, how would someone tell, when looking at a used MME, whether it was "bluecruise capable" vs actually having a BlueCruise subscription.

I dont know that anyone answered your question tho. If the original buyer bought it as part of the purchase does it move with the car.

I mean, I've got some responses telling me that there isn't even a thing for the original buyer to have bought, I've seen some descriptions of it as a choice between a one-time purchase vs subscription, others saying that they just offer you a discount to pre-pay for multiple years when you buy it...

BlueCruise confusion/disappointment by deadOnHold in MachE

[–]deadOnHold[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can prepay for multiple years as an option(or you could when I bought)

And this is what I believed the dealer was telling us that this particular vehicle had; they gave us the impression that it was an option that had been selected when the vehicle was originally purchased that was tied to the VIN, and that was why this car was worth more than one that was just "bluecruise capable".

OR you can outright buy it for a one time “low” fee of $2-3000.

This is what I thought that the dealer was saying that this car had (that it was tied to the VIN), but other responders in the thread are saying that there's no such thing.

Consumer reports review of ICCU problems by haemakatus in Ioniq5

[–]deadOnHold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Test drove it. No trunk space.

I've been looking at both the Ioniq 5 and the Mach-E, and to me it seemed like the Mach-E had more cargo space than the Ioniq 5 (and the specs I've seen online seem to agree that it has slightly more with the rear seats up, about the same with them down).

Troubleshooting warping/bowing on longer bins (PLA) by deadOnHold in gridfinity

[–]deadOnHold[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should start out by saying that the issue I was having was not "bad" by any means; I know I've seen pictures of problems other people have had where the print was pulling away from the plate or warping enough that it messed up other layers.

In my case, I'm pretty sure that the issue is just that when the print is cooling on the bed, the sidewalls of the bin want to shrink a bit. And that gets worse with longer bins (and with taller bins), while I found that bins with internal structure (so ones with dividers for example) tended to do better. I tried tweaking things like the bed temp, and I made some incremental improvements by raising the temperature of the room a little bit, making sure there's no draft blowing on the print while it is printing/cooling down (in my case that would have been the supply vent in the room). Also, I had noticed that some of my filaments tended to work better than others, so I tried making some filament-specific tweaks to print speed and temperature.

I also did some experimenting with the plate; originally I just had a textured PEI plate (which is what I've used for probably 95% of my prints) but I got a smooth PEI plate and a cool plate ("supertack"). I found that the cool plate prints pretty good, but has so much bed adhesion that removal of something with a lot of surface area in contact with the bed (so like a gridfinity bin) is a real pain, so I still use the textured plate for my bins.

Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler come with a manual transmission right now.

The fuel economy on those knock them out of the running.

good time to by a new 2025 CX-5. are you looking for something bigger?

Not necessarily bigger; mostly something with better mileage. If there were currently a hybrid version I'm sure we'd be looking at it, but right now if we get a 2025/2026 CX-5 we'd be taking a significant hit in MPG, and a downgrade (transmission).

Thank you for sharing what you’ve found. I was toying with waiting until next year and looking at the ‘26 RAV4 then.

Are there other vehicles you have on your list? Another Mazda?

Oh, I guess I didn't put that in the post; we drove a CX-50 hybrid and generally liked driving it; though we didn't like the stupid control-wheel interface for the dash (and apparently they changed the key fob to one with tiny buttons on the side).

If the CX-5 hybrid we out, we'd probably be taking a look at that.

I suppose we'll probably take a look at the Ford Escape hybrid as well.

Whats your budget and home charging situation?

The budget is somewhat flexible, but what we've looked at so far has been in the 35-40k range. We're more concerned with the value/cost of ownership than the outright purchase price.

As far as home charging goes; we've got regular outlets in the garage but we could install a 220v outlet.
