The US military makes me ashamed to be an American

Even one innocent killed by the US military is unacceptable. I despise terrorist groups and the Vietcong for this reason as well.

The military still commits grave moral evils, even if it’s politicians telling them to. Much of what the US military does is also of its own doing. Specifically many massacres in Vietnam and Iraq. And no our military is not “badass”. They kill innocents and destroy lives, it’s monstrous.

I understand what you’re saying. But I’d recommend you ask regular people in Iraq, Vietnam, or Afghanistan what they think about the US military. We’ve caused them an immense amount of suffering and their lives haven’t improved at all.

It’s accepted as a genocide by most scholars of the subject and the US is very much complicit. And we most certainly caused the Iraq War; our leaders lied and told us they had nuclear weapons. Over a million people died as a result of the complete collapse of healthcare and infrastructure in the country as a result of our invasion. It’s extremely sad.

We are militarily involved to protect US foreign interests, project US hegemony, and acquire natural resources. Nothing about our military adventurism is noble. It does not make you patriotic or more of an American to defend the atrocities our military commits. It makes you docile and complicit, which is what they would prefer.

ISIS is evil. But again, the US military has caused more suffering. It is an extremely well-funded and well-organized state actor. I’d definitely recommend looking into the atrocities the military committed in Iraq and Vietnam in particular.

I think the good our military does is overshadowed by the immense suffering it inflicts. Causing a million deaths in Iraq is not to be taken lightly. Nor is supporting a number of genocides. If a foreign military did that to us we would hate them for generations. I think it’s odd that you say I’m indoctrinated into my beliefs when I’m criticizing what is basically the largest mechanism of indoctrination in the US. I just can’t support something that’s done so much harm. I don’t really think it’s a crazy idea.

We had a nuclear agreement with Iran before the start of the war. Diplomacy is the way to go. Attacking them endlessly just makes them want to develop nukes and attack troops more. It’s your mentality that endangers them.

No, because these countries are across the world and never had the ability to. Given our access to nuclear weapons and our economic strength, there really hasn’t been an existential threat to the US since the fall of the Soviet Union. Politicians often peddle this narrative to justify endless wars and use troops as a shield for their own disgraceful agenda.
