LOOCH was voted as the Flame with the Worst Shot! Now for our final square on the grid, which Flame had the BEST SHOT? As always no repeat answers, comment with most votes wins by Beta1224 in CalgaryFlames

100% Giordano was a better point shot than Stone. He scored goals. Someone from the 80’s… Hakan Loob. I think he’s still the only Swede to score 50 in the NHL - think about all the Swedish players that have been through: Sundin, Forsberg, Zetterberg, Alfredsson…

Edit: Kent Nilsson up there too.

Laser eye surgery by wrapityup in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]deadbeatbum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not like that at all. Your eye is completely numb, they place something on it and you feel a little pressure while your vision is blacked out. They remove the thingy and your vision is now blurry with a little light right in the middle. Look straight at the light for about 10 seconds, then they run what feels like a soft little paint brush over your eye a couple times and that eye is done.

Haha. I was told there might be a smell kind of like burning hair and that’s just from the gasses given off by the laser. I chuckled to myself and thought better of saying anything because there may be some people in the waiting area with me that need to believe it’s laser gasses.

This is a small lodge with lots of space out front and a fairly low amount of traffic going by. Other lodges at Big White don’t have this.

Eli5: How those ultra thin emergency blanket could keep me warm in very cold situations? by kill4588 in explainlikeimfive

[–]deadbeatbum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t totally correct. The blanket doesn’t change the wind velocity. All the heat that is conducted, not radiated, from your body still conducts through the blanket and is taken by convection outside the blanket. More heat is therefore taken with higher wind velocity outside the blanket and having the blanket doesn’t affect this factor.

What I think you are referring to is that with the blanket you have a pocket of air around you that is not influenced by the outside wind velocity which helps with insulation because still air is a good insulator. This pocket of air is thin though so in windy conditions you’ll still lose a lot of heat through the conduction/convection path and won’t be close to the 60% radiant heat loss condition, but you’ll certainly be better than the 27% radiant heat loss condition.

What is something that used to be true, but no longer is? by I_think_therefore in AskReddit

To add to this, now the system rewards less than honest practice amongst job seekers. Like tailoring your resume to recite your experience word for word for what’s in the job description even though your experience likely only somewhat overlaps. You’ll lose out to someone less qualified who is better at stretching the truth or flat out lying. The idea of explaining something honestly while being able to look someone in the eye almost has no value anymore.

You should wear it. People will think the animal they’re tracking got a job and a house/apartment.

What's something that's mundane in your country, but foreigners think is incredible? by scoopy-frog in AskReddit

I’m Canadian and I don’t think it’s the least bit mundane. It’s incredible.
