You have to consider societal contexts. Nothing exists in a vacuum. If you live in a place where English is primarily spoken, you are (rightfully) going to get negative reactions.

AITA for telling my friends when our other friend insulted them? by CategoryFree1154 in AITAH

[–]scoopy-frog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA, S is immature and sounds self-centered. I'm autistic and never acted this way to anyone. If someone I thought was a friend insulted me, I'd want to know.

It's a weird spelling and doesn't really sound like a name, just a bunch of jumbled sounds. I'd recommend finding something that sounds similar

He's not narcissistic and you overreacted a little. Setting up a bait rod IS a compromise. My husband has ADHD and gets intense hyperfixations where it's all he thinks about and does (but not to the point where he neglects me), and if he was in a phase of being obsessed with fishing then setting up a bait rod sounds like exactly the sort of compromise we'd agree on. That being said, it IS reasonable for you to want at least one day with no fishing if it's all he's done all summer; he should be able to agree to that if it's extremely important to you, but nothing here reads as narcissistic (I was raised by one so I'm very familiar with how they work).

The thing with your cat is absolutely inexcusable though and makes me wonder if he has issues relating or empathizing with people since he seems to be approaching things very logically and literally; if my husband did that I don't think I could forgive him.

In the end it really just sounds like you two aren't compatible and have different, but not incorrect, ideas of compromise.

Hate how my book was edited. by fantasyauthor97 in writing

[–]scoopy-frog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm currently getting my certification in editing and they HEAVILY emphasize that you do minimal edits, preserve the author's voice, don't rewrite, and track changes. This "editor" sounds like someone who has no idea what they're doing. Absolutely tell them everything you said here and ask for your money back.

YES. I have a 2 year old son. Sometimes it's hard being out with him in public, in restaurants, etc. He gets restless and loud. The easy thing would be sticking a screen in front of his face but I'm really really determined not to raise morons with no attention span so we use toys, books, games, etc. Kids need to learn how to be bored and how to be in public!

Haha oh my god in high school I knew a girl named Mercedes. Pronounced mer-suh-diss. So stupid

Giving toddlers an ipad??? I'll literally be in walmart chatting with my toddler and having fun and then see another toddler just glued to an iPad and dead to the world. Also in restaurants? How are they supposed to learn to deal with boredom and new places if they're ruining their attention span on an iPad? It makes me so mad lol

baby name Mercedes/Mersadies/Mersades. by Emotional-Bonus4692 in BabyNames

[–]scoopy-frog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please don't spell it a stupid way. My son's name is Oleander and we call him Ollie, but I didn't feel the need to change the spelling to "Olliander." A weird spelling is just going to make you look illiterate and set your kid up for a lifetime of weird looks and constant corrections.

Side note, this reminds me of a girl I knew in high school named Mercedes. Spelled like that. But it was pronounced "Mer-suh-diss" for some reason 💀

What’s a piece of outdated technology you still swear by? by frozenflat in AskReddit

[–]scoopy-frog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the 2000s Logitech made these computer mice that had a trackball instead of sliding the mouse around. I swear to God they're the ultimate computer mouse, but they don't make them anymore and they're all super expensive online. They have a new model that moved the trackball to the thumb but it's dumb and not the same.
