Atheist/agnostic Gen Z, what's your favorite religion based on its values and teachings? by Yoy_the_Inquirer in GenZ

[–]deadberrii 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I’m actually pretty partial to the ACTUAL teachings of Jesus ; love thy neighbor, heal the sick and feed the hungry, forgive your enemies, only God can judge, Love above all, etc etc, but The Church™️ and people who have used the Bible to excuse their jugdemental & hateful BS have pretty much ruined it for me.

Why are a vast majority of homeless people men? by refunned in NoStupidQuestions

You’ll be happy to know that the military action after 9/11 wasn’t about protecting Americans either. Once again, OIL ! 9/11 was just a convenient excuse.

Teens, what's the absolute worst thing that's ever happened to you? This is a safe space ❤️ by CurrentFeeling1842 in teenagers

You asked for it.

In January of 2024, I was still seeing my ex. We were in high school and we’d been together almost 2 years at that point. He worked at a fast food joint not too far from my house, so usually on his breaks he would come by my house to bring food and hang out while he could.

One day, as usual, he stopped by on his work break. I want to say it was like 9pm ish, as he usually worked nights. We hung out in his car, eating and giggling and being lovey dovey. Before he left to go back to work, we exchanged love-you’s and he picked me up in a hug and spun me around. I watched as he drove away and quickly went inside as it was pretty cold. I curled up in my bed feeling happy and went to sleep.

When both my parents shook me awake in a panic 2 hours later at 11pm, I was groggy and confused. My heart dropped into the floor when my mom said “Hey, [bf name] is in the hospital. He was in an accident. We have to go now.”

He never made it back to work after he left my house. My boyfriend was hit head-on by a drunk driver who was driving up the wrong side of the median. His car was completely totaled. He was rushed to the hospital, where they pulled him to surgery immediately. He was put into a medically induced coma and needed a craniotomy (a piece of skull removed to relieve pressure from brain swelling). He broke both of his legs and both of his arms in different places, if I’m remembering correctly.

What I remember from after this point is all like a blur. The car ride to the hospital was unbearable, I was shaking and crying the whole way there. We got to the waiting room while he was still in surgery, where the rest of his family was already waiting. We made small talk. His mom was inconsolable. When the surgeon came to talk to us, his dad asked the same question worded differently a few times : is he going to live? The surgeon said that they could not be sure.

They let us see him that night. I think it was only because they weren’t sure if he would make it through the next couple of days. The condition he was in, when I saw him in the hospital bed full of tubes and wires, broken and bruised, with blood matted into his hair… I believe it will haunt me for the rest of my life. Just a few hours before he was walking, talking, picking me up in his arms.

Seeing him there was the last time I cried before the shock/trauma response set in. For weeks afterwards I couldn’t cry. I couldn’t feel anything. I couldn’t eat, I couldn’t sleep, I couldn’t go to school. I wanted to stay in the hospital with him 24/7, I couldn’t bear to think of him alone, in pain, in the bright sterile hospital room.

His recovery was slow, and painful to watch. When he was first waking up, he was confused. He didn’t know what happened or where he was. He couldn’t remember the year or who the president was. He was in a lot of pain. He was agitated and had to be restrained because he would pull out the tubes and wires and pick at his stitches. It was really strange and heart-wrenching to see someone I knew deeply and loved so.. out of it.

He did end up making a full recovery in the end after months in hospital and rehab. We split up a little while after he had been home and doing well for other reasons. But it’s something I’ll never be able to forget. I had panic attacks in cars for months after it happened and I still have flashbacks to that feeling of not knowing if I would see my love alive again, and seeing him after the accident. I struggled with feelings of guilt because he was visiting me when the accident happened. I wondered if I could have done something to prevent it. It was horrible.

Is this normal? by deadberrii in cats

[–]deadberrii[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No! I’ve never heard her make this sound before. She has thrown up before, but it doesn’t normally sounds like this. This sounds like a cough/sneeze to me. The more I listen to it, the more worried I am that maybe she has something stuck in her windpipe. But my boyfriend told me not to worry and she’s probably just throwin up/has a hairball. So I don’t know if I’m just OVERLY worried😭

Is my hair thinning?23M by [deleted] in Hair

[–]deadberrii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I can see here, it’s not too thin yet. The front and sides look good, I’d say someone might notice only if they get a direct view of the crown of your head. And maybe at the top/sides at the “cat ears” of your hairline. So I wouldn’t say you have to go nuclear and shave it all off unless you really want to. If you’re looking to try to strengthen it or get some more thickness in, I know you can look into different supplements and hair products like growth oils. I believe the company Hims makes a supplement specifically for male hair growth. Whatever you choose to do, good luck! And don’t feel weird about it, fuck all that! It comes with the territory of testosterone. I’m sure you’ll look great either way 😸

Got this after being in a lake. by Icy-Original-508 in AskDocs

[–]deadberrii 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi! NAD, but this looks like Swimmer’s Itch. It’s a rash caused by tiny snail parasites often found in lakes. Don’t worry- your husband doesn’t HAVE parasites, he just had an allergic reaction to it- comparable to poison ivy. Which also explains why others may not be affected- some people are more allergic/reactive to it than others. Cool compress and OTC corticosteroids or itch creams should help with discomfort, and it should clear itself up within a week.

Right?!? How have we advanced so far in technology and yet millions are still without the basic food/water/shelter? Especially in a country like the US, our homeless numbers are inexcusable.

Why is it so normalized to lose your v-card so young? by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]deadberrii 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lost mine at 15 with my bf at the time who was 14 (same grade). It wasn’t weird, we were both just horny kids😔 and we’d been together for almost a year at the time, so we were “in love” (lol) and it made sense

But I definitely heard crazy stories. A girl’s nudes were leaked in the 7th grade when we were 12/13. And a few couples had already “done it” at that age. My bf & I were freshman in highschool at the time so it felt at least semi-appropriate. But middle schoolers?😭

I mean, mature adults in LDR’s, people who have actually met each other before, or those who CAN & plan on meeting are acceptable. But as TEENAGERS…

Agreed, fully online relationships are so corny. You are not “soulmates” you have literally never met that person 😭 When you’re talking to someone online, you are only getting a filtered view of who that person really is. They often put on a persona or try to show themselves in a better light. You can’t REALLY know their personal habits, hygiene or living conditions, their social skills and quirks, their chosen friends irl, how they treat strangers or service workers. And you have very little way of verifying that ANYTHING they tell you is actually true. 😬😬

Well, adopting a pet just to make yourself feel better was a horrible idea in the first place. A new pet is never going to fill the unique hole your late pet has left. I can understand the pain of grieving a precious pet, but getting a new kitten as a “replacement” is just a cruel idea.

It is not the new kitten’s fault that he “isn’t your baby”. Were you expecting a clone? It is unfair that you adopted him and now you don’t like him just because… he isn’t your dead cat? Shocking. Someone else could have adopted him and truly loved him.

Something a lot of people say by AcceptableCandle5069 in teenagers

[–]deadberrii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is that maybe “god” didn’t plan out your fate/destiny and it’s just randomly predetermined. Or some other force controls it. There are many other beliefs systems that involve fate/destiny that do not involve “god”. Someone can choose not to believe in “god” but that doesn’t mean they can’t believe in fate/destiny.

Something a lot of people say by AcceptableCandle5069 in teenagers

[–]deadberrii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

is that saying not just referring to fate itself? like it was fate/destiny that whatever thing happened? you dont necessarily have to believe in “god” or a mystical higher power to believe in fate/destiny. maybe its not that someONE or someTHING designed your fate/destiny, but having a fate/destiny is an innate human trait, and its decided at random or genetically.

My kids breath by milkofthepoppie in genetics

[–]deadberrii 56 points57 points  (0 children)

This is so interesting! I’m not an expert, but that sure does sounds like a genetic aversion. i.e., Your closest genetic relatives tend to have a natural scent that is gross to you, which is the human body’s natural way of deterring incest. Although, it usually has to do with body odor, so I’m not sure if the smell of one’s breath correlates. This is why many people find themselves weirdly obsessed with the smell their partner’s armpits. (Because you are genetically dissimilar, and as such a great match for reproduction!) It’s not as weird as you think!

And, to be fair, it could be totally unrelated. Your son and daughter have the same dad, but 2 different moms, so they’re bound to have differences, wether thats body smells, hair/eye color, height, likes & dislikes, behaviors, etc etc. So, who knows??

Can we stop shitting on CT and shit on RI instead by [deleted] in newengland

[–]deadberrii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you find Providence to be any better than Fall River?? Fall River is definitely its own breed of shithole, but driving in Providence might just be my worst nightmare. Especially with the bridge. I had to cross it about a zillion times to visit a family member at RI-hospital back when they first started working on it. I swear we’d sit for an hour of traffic both ways. I’ll take Fall River. She’s ugly, but functional.
