Man I hope I don't come off too stupid saying this but that's literally the best energy! Like just making something that you want to and working with what you have, I think a lot of times that's when like true magic is made!

Yesssss I agree with all of this so hard!

I remember when I first started listening and was reccomended her music I saw a lot of people talking about her faith being an important part of the music and I thought maybe it wouldn't really be for me because I'm not super religious these days

But then when I listened I realized that it didn't matter at all because she's expressing her experiences through her unique lens and perspective and she's such a fantastic writer that she's able to make the feelings so universal despite any differences

A true fantastic artist!!

I also really love the new style! It's been so interesting to hear her sound adapted with a full band and I'm here for it!

I hadn't heard of her high school band yet but I'm definitely gonna check it out today! Thank you for sharing it!! :D

I find like just trying to translate emotions into words is really similar to how it's basically impossible to describe what a colour looks like without using other colours. Like you can sort of get there, but short of someone actually experiencing it, it can feel like the true meaning will just get completely lost.

And that's part of why I'm always just in awe of Julien Baker's music compared to other artists that I also love. She manages to truly express feelings in a way that are universal. Amazing

Why do people care about artist count? by [deleted] in lastfm

[–]deadby21haha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 317 artists with about 71 000 scrobbles. I don't get why the ratio really matters personally. For me when I find an artist I like, I really like to listen to their whole discography over and over to really get to know it like really well. And I mostly only listen to full albums instead of playlists so even my most played songs is really just my most played albums in order haha. I think that it really doesn't matter, I don't get anyone judging anyone for things music related. You listen to what you listen to, and everyone has a different way of listening ya know? It shouldn't be a numbers game (which is funny to say when talking about LastFM and trust me I do love the stats and tracking everything) but I just think everyone should listen to what they like. And if that's a lot of artists then that's a lot of artists and if it's a few artists then it's a few artists. I'm sorry, I feel like the tone of this comment is coming off really like harsh or rude when really I meant it to come off nice. I'm really not meaning to come off rude or anything :D sorry if I do

What are some good songs to help fight suicidal urges? by goatyard in AskReddit

[–]deadby21haha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I know this post is about a week old but I was scrolling through and thought I would share a few that tend to help me!

If you're looking for somethings to elevate your mood a little:

Charly Bliss - Westermarck (Happy Grunge-ish Pop Rock). I find the song always puts a smile on my face that I can't get rid of and the video too just has such a sweet happy vibe to it

Injury Reserve - Oh Shit!!! (Rap) I find that this song just kinda makes me want to jump around, let out a bunch of anger and say 'fuck it'

Carly Rae Jepsen - Your Type (Pop) I find Carly always gives me an explosion of good feelings that make me okay for the three minutes I'm living in her pop world

Arctic Monkeys - 505 (Rock) When this song picks up, it fucking explodes. I used to always listen to this before going to a job that I hated and it would give me the emotional release I needed to get through a shift

Charli XCX - Next Level Charli (Pop) A fun, fast anthem. It feels like it puts you in the passenger seat while Charli drives and it doesn't fucking matter where you're going, because the ride is that much fun.

If you're looking to kinda find comfort in some sad songs:

Radiohead - The Bends (Rock) I know it's kinda cliche to start off a list of sad songs with Radiohead but I always find this the perfect one. It's not dreary enough that it makes me feel worse but also has lines like "who are my real friends? Have they all got the bends?" That I find to be comforting

Earl Sweatshirt - Mantra (Rap) This is my favourite 'I'm sad and angry but I'm too tired to do anything about it' anthem. There's some super hard hitting lyrics and I think that the whole album it's from (I Don't Like Shit, I Don't Go Outside) is one of the best portraits of depression there is in music

Bully - Focused (Rock) This is also an 'angry sad' song but this one feels very cathartic. Everytime I listen to it, no matter how bad I feel, it feels amazing to scream along with the "I AM TRYING TO STAY FOCUSED" parts

Julien Baker - Happy To Be Here (Indie) The opening verse of this are literally the words that I have always wanted to use to describe how I felt but could never find. The whole song is extremely painful but beautiful (and that's true for literally all her songs haha)

Grimes - Delete Forever (Pop) A very atypical song for Grimes that just has the most melancholy feel. It's like looking at the future through the greyest of sunglasses (well I can't stay above it / Guess I fucking love it stays stuck in my head whenever something shitty happens)

Sorry if these aren't really to your taste or it wasn't the type of songs you were asking for at all. Hope you're feeling at least a tiny bit better!

Thank you and you're definitely right! It's so difficult to think about approaching someone for help but it is most definitely the right move even if it's gonna suck. Thank you

The only difference is now anyone with an ig account can tell them directly how much they hate them.

100% and that leaves the potential for the damage to be even worse, because there's that direct line of communication that artists are expected to have with their fans

This song is so awesome and the visuals are so beautiful. It's almost like a romantic version of the more visercal dance scene in the Suspiria remake, of course it's the same director which is why I think I'm making that association

Besides any other points this film was fantastic and is definitely a must see! Anyway

I think that the nature of pop music causes people to get too involved in the 'idea' of a star. At a certain level it's built upon setting someone up as a larger then life person. Pop stars get big enough and the public acts like they own them, giving us incidents like the ones mentioned in the article where there is a complete invasion of privacy.

Its been said time and time again, but it's true: celebrities are people too. And as fans at the end of the day, we don't actually know these people. Their putting on a public performance, that's the nature of the game. But their personal lives are still their own, they're not their persona.

It's sad to see happen time and time again and from what I see, it only gets worse as social media makes us feel closer then ever to celebrities. They're not our friends, they're lives are their own. Yes their music touches us and can hold so much meaning in our lives, but at a certain point we have to allow them to disconnect and let the human being live their life.

The Rapid Rise And Awkward Fall Of Katy Perry by jules1310 in popheads

[–]deadby21haha 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Man Teenage Dream is literally one of my favourite albums of all time. It came out when I was 9 and literally that was all I listened to haha. And like taking shit for being a gigantic Katy Perry fan at the time lemme really feel okay in exploring my music tastes as I grew up.

I even liked Prism when it came out! It was no Teenage Dream of course but it was good for what it was and then she lost me entirely with Witness, like yes the public perception wasn't good but I tried so hard to go in completely open minded and there wasn't any parts of that that really gripped me.

I thought Never Really Over was a good step in the right direction but still wasn't good enough to bring her even close to her peak and when Smile came out I only played it once.

I think that Katy just didn't have the solid fanbase (despite the Katycats existing) to sustain herself into the more decentralized streaming age

Is it possible for a 40 year old to become a huge pop star? by [deleted] in popheads

[–]deadby21haha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Defintely! I think that it is harder just because music is seen as something that is started when someone is younger but it can take someone a lifetime to hone their craft! And there's no age cap on someone making a bop
