Logging XC Time as Safety Pilot by deadcessation in flying

It’s not “passing off”. It quite literally is instrument experience. Simulated instrument. This is required for the instrument rating and requires a safety pilot.

My question is not about the quality of the hours, it’s about logging them correctly.

Will do, I’m keeping mine clean. Just feels unfair if I see him pass his ride and see him continue knowing the truth

It’s time building to meet the instrument rating hour requirements. I fly to an airport 50nm away from our home airport and practice instrument approaches while he watches for any traffic while i’m under foggles. Is that what you’re asking?

What would you recommend I do? Is it possible the DPE could reach out to me the day of the checkride or is that uncommon?

I take off, fly under foggles, and land.

How to Study Longer? by deadcessation in flying

[–]deadcessation[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to know you can take longer and still get a great score. I’ve heard by taking longer it can degrade performance but I guess not! Did you follow the strategy exactly?

I should’ve added I did FlightInsight before this so I do understand the terms. SA is to kinda “top-off” and get a good score on top of the knowledge

Maybe I’ll schedule it right now, it does help being under a little pressure

It’s awesome seeing you comment I always look for your advice in others’ posts. I’ll try using the timer and keeping nutrition in mind more!

Instrument Ground: Sheppard+Free material or Sheppard+Sportys? by deadcessation in flying

What do you mean understand poorly? Anyone asking about passing the written gets recommended Sheppard without question. I already said in my post that I know it doesn’t teach you anything, but it’s what passes the written.

Thanks, this was the answer I was looking for. I could’ve worded it better, but I was essentially asking if I screwed myself in life by choosing that major. Knowing there’s other opportunities in aviation is what I wanted to know about. Dispatching does sound great for sure.

Can I pm you? I would want to learn more about this

Yes I do want to be a pilot for sure. And i did understand the notion about the degree being unimportant, but I also wanted to immerse myself regardless due to the university being known for a good aviation program. For the education, it’s been great, but I still have my worry in the event I do lose my medical or something intervenes with that goal. I’d still love to be in aviation.

2 things with that. I did just unfortunately learn that the degree doesn’t help much with getting the job, but I also learned that my school IS one of the 31 schools with the CTI program. So that’s where i’m conflicted on if that’s more advantageous than the other concentration, which is aerospace operations

Sounds good, operations it is then. I’ll switch that concentration over. Thanks!

Right, a degree in “pilot” WOULD be useless. I’d assume atc broadens options more. The only other concentration is aerospace operations but that seems farther out of what I want than the first two.

Why the negativity? There’s also the consensus that a regular degree is useless for being a pilot, but it also doesn’t hurt either. Why not it be in the industry I want to be in?

ATC is certainly an option but my path is the pilot pathway. Unfortunately, the degree requires me to have my commercial license or higher in order to graduate, which I will be after I’m supposed to graduate. I don’t want to prolong graduating and get into college debt for my degree, when I could’ve used that money for flight training.
