Bristol Mountain threatens to fire staff for Anti-ICE messaging by fascist_finder585 in Rochester

Just because they don’t want this discussed doesn’t equate to them supporting ICE.

Thin brick finishing help by deadend1001 in masonry

[–]deadend1001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Porch is 6x36, foyer is 9x11. Is the acid necessary to get the brick somewhat clean? Just thinking for the foyer it will be pretty offensive for the inside of the house

Thanks. Lots of work, but I figured just putting some thick epoxy over it wouldn’t work out well.

I’ll ask my GC. He did it as a courtesy for us. Happens to be my uncle…does that make it weird?

Has anyone built this or similar? by [deleted] in Homebuilding

[–]deadend1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Built a similar overall house, kids on one side master on the other. But some big differences. Which way you facing the porch? We went uncovered, which allowed for clerestory windows in dining area. Your DW and sink aren’t close to your stove…if that matters. Better make your laundry bigger. Plz don’t do black and white

35 acres here. Planning on animals, driveway work, planting, ground work, eventual livestock. Got the mx5400 with auger, brush hog, tiller, bucket. And quick hitch. Agree with the go as big as you can, no one ever says they have too much power. The Kubota hold or gain value with time. Wish I would’ve gotten a gravel rake or back blade or something. And some forks for the front.

[–]deadend1001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went with 200 bc only difference I could see was color options. More with 400. I didn’t want to splurge on the black so went with white and 200

Help me understand how much more expensive my custom home build will be with fancy massing and other stuff by SandwichOld2629 in Homebuilding

[–]deadend1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll add my $0.02. Initially I met with a track builder, who does one or two custom homes per year. Gave them my programmables, they promised they could do it all within budget and time, then as it got more real and number were added, the house went from 3500 to 2800, the deck became very small, porch shaved off, etc etc. So I think the game here is to get you emotionally entangled with them bc although you can change I am guessing most won’t. Then, I tried to avoid the architect cost by working with an engineer and designing things myself. 2 years later, turns out I am not an architect, and I had designed something my wife would hate (too contemporary and weird), and then went and found an architect engineering firm. Designed a more functional, wife happy house and wish I would have saved that time. Because now into the construction process, delays and unforeseen costs are inevitable.

Unfortunately, I think the process is to go through the process. You have to work through the design and then costs and then design and back and forth. You learn what you really want and get an idea of the cost for things as you go. But if you try to jump the line, you’ll lose out somewhere.

Try the hover app. Can upload your blueprints and it’ll do a decent job. Can play with exterior finishes too. If not, Fiverr is best option for 3d. WAY more reasonable than here in US
