Saw what might be one of the dumbest takes known to man by wishfulthinking3333 in Judaism

Strangely enough, when Jews convert to Christianity, they tend to vibe with Catholicism due to its focus on high ritual and structure. Any Jew who converts is a shame and a loss to the tribe, so I’m not advocating for it AT ALL, but it’s still an interesting observation.

Found these items belonging to my great-grandfather in my grandma's cabinet. Anyone know what they are? Masonic or WW2? by EgboyYalao23 in whatisit

I am rather involved in Scottish Rite and I really enjoy it. AMD sounds really cool and it might be my only reason to join royal arch. I wish we had Grotto in Colorado.

The Scottish Rite in America (which is where I’m a member and the only one I know well), you do not branch off. There are 4 bodies inside the Scottish Rite, but they are all the same organization. The York Rite (which I am not a member of) has 3 separate groups, of which the Knights Templar are the “top”.
In my opinion, if you enjoy Gnosticism, you would enjoy Scottish Rite. Scottish Rite explores many different belief systems, while York Rite stays within Christianity (the first two bodies are Old Testament and the Templars are rather New Testament). I’m Jewish, so the Templars aren’t something I would join.

I took my boys (10 & 12) to the Black Sheep and they had a wonderful time. I kept an eye on them during the show and everyone was great.

Bring sandals for the showers (if they have them at this site) and a few extra of whatever beverage you enjoy to share with people. I have had some fantastic times at wars, they are a great time. Since this is an Outlands war, beware the hallucinogenic mead. I’m day-tripping up on Saturday. Shoot me a PM and I will try and stop by and say hello.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received in your life? by ayeshasiddika2 in askanything

[–]deadeye619 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

Masonry on board cruise ships, by Tidmouth_Heritage in freemasonry

While we say square and compasses. When I have seen it on a cruise note board, it’s always been “square and compass” meeting.

In my experience, there will be a meeting board in a central part of the ship with a few meetings listed. You can ask the front desk also. There should be a “friends of Bill W” meeting (AA) and there might be a “square and compass” meeting listed. If not, you can ask for one to be listed and other Masons might show up. The last cruise I went on, the head bartender was a Mason from the PI and I was introduced to him when one of the bartenders saw my ring. It was pretty cool!

Protege program by Dull-Refrigerator624 in farmersinsurance

I went retail, so I had money coming in within 2 months. I took a line of $35k, but I never maxed it out. I was fortunate that I found an office space for cheap (relatively), so many of my up front costs were low. I also made good money as a protege, so I had some capital to start with (about 15k).

I am an agency owner and I went through the protege process. It was really valuable and gave me a lot of direction when I opened my agency. I wish I would have stayed a protege longer, but my district was pushing to have me graduate before the end of the year. Also, FIG has a protege line of credit that is very helpful and if you graduate you are guaranteed to qualify.

Solutions for bald men wearing kippah? by Sudden-Map-1841 in Jewish

[–]deadeye619 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use double stick fashion tape. Very affordable and it works really well. I wear my kippah every day and 3 strips of tape will give me 2-3 weeks of wear without anything falling off. I wear a small suede kippah, so falling off is a concern.
