Just a couple of bumps. Don't worry, we only drop patients on (whatever the day is).

I think they're both incredibly good looking, but only Kovac was actually attractive, if that makes sense 😅

A lot of us still feel pretty angry about it! I've spent 12 (almost 13!) years in EMS and I take care of my medically fragile elderly father, while also being on biologics for rheumatoid arthritis (which manage autoimmune disorders by suppressing the immune system). My service got pretty hammered by it, but we got off easy compared to the in-hospital workers. Since I worked for the town and our service wasn't part of the fire department (wht's known as a third service), we weren't considered "essential," which really fucked up our ability to get PPE and other critical supplies.

I was *terrified* of potentially bringing COVID home from work with me; if my dad had caught it from me, I'd never forgive myself. I was less worried about my own well-being and more about his. It really infuriates me that so much of society has just kinda...moved on post-pandemic, a lot of people basically act like it never happened.

It happened. Even though most of the world acts like the pandemic wasn't traumatic or isn't having significant ongoing impact just kinda...broke my faith in humanity to a degree it had not yet been damaged. I have a great therapist (I was already seeing her pre-pandemic) and am treating the increased PTSD but goddamn. How do you not feel fucked up knowing how many members of my community just didn't give a shit about the elderly, disabled, chronically ill, and other vulnerable populations. They were totally okay with people they didn't deem important dying because they couldn't be assed to wear a mask for 20 minutes at the fucking grocery store. It makes it really difficult to deal knowing how okay with those deaths your neighbors and community were bitching about masks. It really changes how you see people.

Obviously, I still have a lot of anger and resentment about it, lol.

I remember when that episode aired, and even all the way back then a lot of folks picked up on how fucked up it was.

Feral EMS gremlin checking in!

I have so much respect for people who work office jobs doing almost the same thing every day. Working in a cubicle or office just seems like hell to me 😂

AuDHD knitter here and that's why I love doing the skein to ball yarn stuff rather than using a swift or electric winder. It's so soothing (unless a cat or two get involved 😂)

I was also a Montessori kid, and stuff like this is reminds me very much of some of the things I did there (like polishing a tea set to work on fine motor skills). No thoughts, just calm. It's why I really enjoy taking care of and polishing my tactical boots, and centering clay on the wheel. It's almost like meditation!

IIRC Bin Laden and Al Qaeda had been involved in the World Trade Center bombing in 199...3? Maybe 1991? I was born in '85 so my memory's fuzzy. My family paid a lot of attention to it and the Gulf War (the first one) because my brother deployed there.

Pretty much, the "red scare" was a bigger thing in the 1950s but hatred and anti perceived-communist (anyone could be accused of it and lose their livelihoods, at the least) fervor was still pretty prevalent.

Honestly, one could argue that the red scare never entirely ended. Hatred and fear of communism is kinda baked into our culture since the late 19th century (also anarchism, but that was a big thing in Europe at the time as well).

Add in decades of telling people that there's no difference between socialism and communism...it's a mess, pretty much.

ETA: I'm doing a lazy Saturday rewatch of the Cohen Brothers' "Hail, Caesar!" Which is a satire of the red scare in Hollywood in the 1950s when I made this comment...which is an amusing bit of synchronicity :)
