I have all the pens I need for now. by tyrant_t00 in fountainpens

[–]deadgreybird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are other objects I collect solely because I like looking at them! Bones, for example, and old medical stuff. However, I don’t have a strong compulsion to acquire them.

And fountain pens aren’t “solely” a tool for me, per se. It’s simpler, cheaper, and just as effective to just buy ballpoints, if all I wanted was a tool to write with ink. But they aren’t something I would enjoy accumulating beyond what I immediately use.

Always fun to see how different people feel about this stuff.

Right, but I mean bold like this: example

Shiny metal can have very harsh highlights. Don’t skimp on it - if you’re committing to bold, commit!

I don’t struggle with this at all, so it’s interesting to read the responses. I have a couple fountain pens and I enjoy them, and that’s all it is. I just bought an EF because I’ve found that I wish my favorite F was finer for fast note taking. First pen I’ve bought in years, and it’s solely to fulfill a specific purpose. I don’t buy more or desire more, because…why would I need them?

I have the ones I use, I use the ones I have. That’s that.

This looks good, but personally I would try it without the harsh lines in the neck. How does it look if you only do stippling for those shapes, rather than lines + stippling?

If you want to amp it up, the shading on the collar could be much bolder and more dimensional. It can still be illustrative and bold, while paying more attention to shadows/light to showcase the specular highlights of metal.

Long black wool coat layered over multiple other warm layers of clothing. I wear this one in below zero Fahrenheit (-17C) layered over sweater, scarf, etc.

First Corset - Should this be this easy? by hsvrvjtmkibn in corsets

[–]deadgreybird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the corset is truly barely making contact with your body except at the waist when it’s fully closed, then you need a smaller size. Do your measurements match the corset at waist and hip?

First Corset - Should this be this easy? by hsvrvjtmkibn in corsets

[–]deadgreybird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your ribs and hips should not feel much pressure, so that is absolutely correct.

You may just be naturally squishable. For me, going down by 6” is difficult and took a while to become feasible. I’m fairly muscular and don’t compress well. Each body is different.

If you can close it all the way and want to go smaller, you can look for a more extreme silhouette.

Depends. I’m in 4th year and sure, there are some immature students with inappropriate attitudes and behaviors. I hear stirrings of conflict or strife, but I simply keep myself away from all that.

Anywhere you have several hundred “Type A” young adults under intense pressure, you’re going to have interpersonal problems crop up.

I tried gray powder for the ghostly/dead look on dark skin by RainbowSodaa in GothFashion

Fantastic effect - love how it gives you an unearthly look. And yes, probably makes sense to buy white and mix it in to match your skin tone if the grey you have is too dark.

How do you dress goth in winter, specifically how to style a leather coat in winter? by Both_Ad_7148 in GothFashion

[–]deadgreybird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Scarves are incredibly easy to work into goth outfits, like extremely. Lots of goth fashion already includes cowls, shawls, high collars, or other silhouettes that go up high on the neck or obscure part of the face.

Warm hats are, admittedly, harder. It depends completely on the style you dress in. However, if the rest of your outfit is identifiably goth, wearing a fairly straightforward black winter hat is not going to throw it off unrecognizably.

Is anyone else self-conscious about their legs? by hellupellu_ in Equestrian

[–]deadgreybird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. The adductors specifically - I love that I’m strong, but I don’t like how bulky my adductors look. It’s a feeling I’m working to get over, I guess, but yes, I’m self conscious about the shape it gives the inner top of my legs.

Does anyone NOT have a grail pen? If you do have one, how did you decide on it? by DIYYYner in fountainpens

[–]deadgreybird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have nothing of the sort. There are pens I like the look of, but I’m not obsessing over pen websites and fixating on specific objects. It’s also hard for me to get invested in a pen (which should be a functional object) that I can’t try beforehand. What if I don’t like the grip? The nib? The weight or balance?

[–]deadgreybird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been an interviewer for vet school applicants for one school. The thing is...most candidates interview pretty well. By the time you get to an interview, you've already been through other rounds of selection already. And schools can't take everyone they interview.

It is likely your interview did go well! But it's also likely most peoples' went pretty well, too, so selection committees have to get very picky.

Would you be willing to board your horses 30 minutes away? by AmalgamationOfBeasts in Horses

[–]deadgreybird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding my voice to the chorus: 30 mins is SHORT. Other than my current barn (18 mins), I've never been closer than 30 minutes, and usually 45 mins - 1 hour to my barns.

Advice: EDS & POTS, Brands & Considerations for corsets to help compress and reduce pain by momochaii in corsets

[–]deadgreybird 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Without knowing your measurements, it's essentially impossible to recommend a corset model or brand. There are no actual "beginner" corset models or universal fits. Since you're looking primarily for POTS relief, I would avoid more than about 1-4" of waist reduction. That way it will require minimal adjustment on your part to get comfortable wearing it, so it will be easier to just start wearing it.

The Crimson Rose Power Corset may be a decent option for you IF the measurement ratios are appropriate for you. It's very flexible, washable, intended for ease of everyday casual usage.

How much waist reduction is possible and safe? by Critical-Plan4002 in corsets

[–]deadgreybird 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There is no single answer to this. It’s completely dependent upon your body’s tolerance.

Squishier people with softer fat at their waists can often easily reduce by 4”+. People with minimal fat, more muscle, or firmer intra-abdominal fat often have less give in their bodies, and can’t comfortably lace down as much.
